General Summary

Job Summary

The Project Manager will manage and coordinate the NEH-funded UChicagoNode project (https://www.lib.uchicago.edu/about/news/nehgrant-to-transform-uchicagos-creation-and-delivery-of-digital-collections-and-research-data/ ). UChicagoNode is initially a four-year partnership between the University of Chicago Library and the Humanities Division to bring together existing digital resources and services from Library and Faculty projects into a comprehensive, modernized, sustainable digital ecosystem.

During its four-year period of NEH funding, it will make digital collections and research outputs accessible through a distributed infrastructure that will allow modelling, analysis and sharing of content while ensuring its long-term preservation. UChicagoNode will play a central role in supporting the ongoing growth of digital humanities at the University and, given the University’s role as one of the world’s leading academic institutions, promises to have global impact.

The project is steered by a project board, chaired by the Dean of the Library and the Director of the Online Publication Service, with key parts of the work overseen by the Director of the Digital Library Development Center in close collaboration with other staff from the Forum of Digital Culture.

Responsibilities

Create documentation and timelines, identify deliverables, and update and further develop the project plan as necessary.

Coordinate and supervises the activities of project personnel, technical staff from the Digital Library Development Center, the OCHRE Data Service, the ARTFUL project, Library and Humanities staff and others whose work might intersect with the work

of the project.

Manage and improve project workflows, identify problems and implement solutions, escalating issues to the project board where necessary.

Coordinate across units, ensuring that stakeholders in the Humanities Division, Library and externally are informed, provide input where necessary and feel engaged in the project.

Ensure that the project aligns with best practices for the handling of heritage collections, coordinate the work to convert metadata records into a standard format and flag copyright, ethical, and other rights issues and have these properly reflected in the metadata.

Assist with other administrative projects as needed and acquire higher level guidance and skills.

Coordinates events, researches logistics, assists with planning and preparing presentations, event outreach, and post-event write ups.

Performs other related work as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program, or Post-graduate degree (Master or Doctor) in the humanities or a related field.

Experience:

Experience with project management.

Experience with digital exhibition or content management systems.

Experience with digital library or archival collections.

Experience with online projects and web services.

Background in the humanities or a related field.

Preferred Competencies

Strong written and oral communication and collaboration skills.

Collaborator with matrix-management experience, able to work across divisions and units to guide the work of a distributed team.

Ability and willingness to engage with sometimes complex metadata and rights issues.

Working Conditions

Requires the ability to work independently and in close collaboration with other staff from the Forum of Digital Culture.
