Position Description

The Song Lab is seeking a Project Manager who will provide day-to-day oversight of research, training, and administrative operations. The Project Manager will work under the direct supervision of the Lab's PI.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Project and Operations Management:

•Oversee the administrative and operational activities of the research projects in the lab

•In collaboration with the PI and lab members, develop and manage project timelines to ensure progress of research plans and deliverables are met in a timely and organized manner; identify obstacles to project success in a timely manner and implement problem-solving actions as needed

•Assist with budget management, including monitoring spending and managing effort allocations for the lab members

•In collaboration with the PI and lab members, ensure protocol and regulatory compliance for all research activities, including Institutional Review Boards (IRBs)

•In collaboration with the PI and lab members, develop and implement standard operating procedures for research projects at the lab

•Develop and manage relationships with collaborators and partner institutions, including the Massachusetts General Hospital

•Assist the PI with the preparation of presentation and grants materials for project updates and reports, including reporting on grant progress

•Other related duties as assigned

Administrative Management:

•Develop, implement, and manage administrative systems and procedures for effective management of the lab and its research projects

•Manage the lab's communications efforts, including maintaining the lab website, publicizing lab members' work/publications via social media

•Assist the PI with oversight of the lab's staff, including coordinating meetings and events, developing initiatives to maintain staff engagement, helping resolve issues, and cultivating a collaborative environment

•Coordinate the recruitment, hiring, onboarding and offboarding for the lab, including staff, academic, and temporary roles

•Liaise with the Department Administrator and HR to develop job descriptions and recruitment plans as needed

•May supervise staff in the future as needed

•Other related duties as assigned

Job Summary

The Department of Epidemiology, at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, studies the frequency, distribution, and determinants of disease in humans, a fundamental science of public health. In addition to pursuing ground-breaking global research initiatives, we educate and prepare future medical leaders and practitioners as part of our mission to ignite positive changes in the quality of health across the world.

The Song Lab, led by Dr. Mingyang Song, focuses its research on clinical and translational epidemiology of cancer under two main themes. One is to combine large-scale observational studies with biomarker-based randomized clinical trials to identify novel nutritional and gut microbiota-targeted strategies for cancer prevention and treatment. The other is to integrate electronic health record (EHR) data with molecular profiling for developing cost-effective risk assessment tools for precision cancer screening and surveillance. The ultimate goal of the lab's research is to translate epidemiologic advances into the clinic for improved cancer prevention and treatment.
