LACATS Clinical Research Resources Core
Location: New Orleans, LA
Summary This is a full-time position within the Tulane Clinical Research Finance Office under the LA CATS Clinical Research Resources Core. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure sound financial management of clinical research within the university by providing financial support for clinical trials, as well as guidance on research finance for research staff and administrators. Responsibilities include developing, negotiating, and executing budgets for clinical trials; performing Medicare coverage analyses for clinical trials to confirm billing compliance; providing management, training, and other support related to Tulane’s clinical trial management system. This position also serves as a resource for guidance on issues related to research finance from departments within the School of Medicine in both pre- and post-award phases, and provides ongoing education to support research budgeting, labor distribution, financial management, invoicing, and other topics. The Pre-Award Specialist III also contributes information and ideas related to areas of responsibility as part of a cross functional team. Ensures effective and efficient workflow and adherence to quality standards for staff/program and self. The Pre-Award Specialist will be expected to have the following requirements based on years of experience:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of clinical research activity and an understanding of key cost drivers and related fees • Knowledge of Medicare coverage principles through clinical or research experience • Ability to quickly grasp and apply standard operating procedures for clinical trial start-up in the context of budget and coverage analysis • High-level interpersonal skills in a professional environment are required • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Ability to analyze financial data and formulate conclusions • Ability to create and maintain accurate and detailed financial records • Ability to find, interpret, and correctly apply policies and guidelines from federal agencies and other relevant subject matter authorities • Ability to learn changing technologies related to clinical trial financial management • Proficient use of computers; requires solid working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/tasks simultaneously • Ability to interact and communicate with senior leadership • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision • Proactively resolve issues in a timely manner • Excellent customer service orientation • Deadline oriented; work well under pressure Required Education and/or Experience • Bachelor's Degree required • A minimum of 5 years effective work-related research and/or financial management • Any appropriate combination of relevant education and/or work experience may be considered. Preferred Qualifications • Master’s Degree preferred • Direct experience developing and negotiating clinical trial budgets • Direct experience interpreting and applying coverage determinations for clinical research • Experience and aptitude conducting and leading training sessions for research staff with varying specialties and levels of prior exposure to subject matter. Compensation Information This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 26.
