**Job Summary**

To provide advanced animal husbandry and veterniarian support for the humane care and treatment of all research animals in the central UT Arlington Animal Care Facility and remote satellite facilities.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**

+ Perform animal husbandry and janitorial duties in the animal facility as assigned.

+ Assist veterinarian and facility manager in evaluating and maintain the health of animals and relevant health records.

+ Provide assistance in surgical and diagnostic procedures on animals.

+ Assist facility manager in maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment, and in preparation of reports and cost analysis.

+ Complete additional duties as assigned by the facility manager.

**Minimum Qualifications**

+ High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the care of animals in a laboratory facility.

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or equivalent.

+ Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technologist by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**

+ Knowledge and understanding of, along with the ability to meet and exceed, the AWA, OLAW, and USDA guidelines.

+ Willingness to work in an animal research facility and provide superior customer service to research staff working in the facility.

+ Ability to read and follow all Standard of Operations and Quality Assurance Standards.

+ High attention to detail.

+ Ability to consistently complete respective tasks.

+ Professional capacity for teamwork and collaboration.

+ Must be able to lift a maximum of 50lbs; bend, stoop, climb and stand for a prolonged period **.**

Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.

**Working Conditions**

+ Work is performed mostly in an animal laboratory facility setting.

+ Working conditions may involve disagreeable elements.

+ Prolonged standing, lifting and stooping.

+ Wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required.

+ Some exposure to bio-chemicals and microbes.
