What you will do at Precinct One
Precinct One is seeking a Park Manager for the Parks Department . The successful candidate will be hands-on and responsible for the safe and effective operation of the assigned Precinct One Park.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The manager will assign, supervise, and monitor the work of park Caretakers. This includes planning and scheduling tasks, monitoring, and evaluating employees, resolving personnel concerns, enforcing Precinct policies and regulations, park rules and procedures, and training employees.
This individual also plans the maintenance in the park, coordinates equipment repairs, performs weekly inspections of all facilities, equipment, and playgrounds, and reports safety hazards to the proper personnel.
Additionally, the manager plans and coordinates special projects and events; interfaces with the public regarding park concerns; participates in scheduled meetings and conferences; assists in the preparation of budgets and other departmental reports.

What you will bring to Precinct One
Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
Experience and/or technical training may substitute for education
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience in park management
Proficiency in Microsoft software applications, which could include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Licensure:
Valid driver’s license (Texas upon hire) and a good driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of ground maintenance, park operations, occupational hazards, and safety precautions
Knowledge of Park management, including natural resource conservation and public relations
Ability to coach and lead staff, as well as practice good budget management
Knowledgeable about the operation of park maintenance equipment and tools

Education:
Bachelor's degree in, Park and Resource Management, Recreation and Park Administration, Environmental Resources, Forestry, Arboriculture, or a closely related field (preferred)

About Precinct One
There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of the Harris County Commissioners Court, the county’s governing body.
With approximately 1.1 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One’s multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American, 37 percent Latino, 18 percent Anglo, 5 percent Asian, and 1 percent other.
Precinct One, which includes 876 miles of road, stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct’s territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park, and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the NRG Sports and Convention Complex, and the renowned Texas Medical Center. The precinct is also the educational home to Houston Community College, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One manages 25 parks, 11 community centers, numerous hike-and-bike trails, three maintenance service centers, and several area offices, all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.
