At ReadMe, we’re committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace. We welcome people of all backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. We are an equal opportunity employer and a pleasant and supportive place to work. We'd love to have you come join us here! ReadMe is open to hiring folks fully remote in the US, hybrid, or in-person at our San Francisco HQ.

Hiya! I’m Naomi (they/she) and I’m a manager on the frontend team here at ReadMe. We’re looking for frontend engineers with an eye for detail to help us build the best documentation platform we can. As a developer here, you’ll work on solving problems you care about, while growing as an engineer in whatever direction you choose.

Our engineers are cross-functional—if you want to work a bit on a full stack project, do user research with the Design Team, or be part of the planning process for a new feature, go for it! Engineers here love learning by doing, and since we’re a project-based team, there’s always a chance to learn something new with talented peers to help you along the way.

Most of all, our developers are allowed and encouraged to excel as engineers. If your favorite thing to do is sit down and code something you’re proud of, you’ll love working at ReadMe.

???? What we do

ReadMe helps companies build beautiful, personalized, and interactive developer hubs. If you’ve ever visited the developer docs for Intercom, Airbnb, or Notion, you’ve used ReadMe! We love what we do because it’s so much more than just docs. We’re providing tools for teams to create and manage beautiful documentation with ease. Our Engineers are especially excited to see the impact their work can have, because they care deeply about developer experience.

You can read more about what it’s like to work at ReadMe on our careers page , or our Key Values page . We've written on our blog in the past about how we interview , and feel free to browse our other blog posts as well if it strikes your fancy!

✅ What you’ll do here

We’ve got a unique blend of folks who enjoy diving deep in their niche knowledge areas and those who have fun working on a variety of topics over time. The following is an example of what you might work on, though we always encourage engineers to follow their interests!

Work closely with designers to understand and respond to user needs, and have fun making things beautiful!

Work on our UI library building out components, from semantic markup to CSS styles!

Architect the front end of our hub and dash applications to be intuitive, visually delightful, and performant.

Join one of our project pods and help the team ship features as part of our six-week sprints.

???? You’ll love this job if you are…

Framework-flexible : While you should have a working knowledge of JS/CSS/HTML, we care more about your architectural thinking than the tech you use.

Product-focused : Building a better documentation and developer experience platform for all is something that inherently excites you.

Not a perfectionist : You take risks, learn from your mistakes, and succeed beautifully every so often.

Excited to take ownership : We believe the way to learn is to take things on and own them. You’re even welcome to take on passion projects and be the change you seek to drive change.

Collaborative : Your code reviews and pull requests are detailed, you’re always happy to share knowledge, and you love a good pairing session.

???? How you’ll grow in one month

Get to know the Engineering team:

Sink your teeth into a substantial project:

???? Within a few months, you’ll…

Get to know the broader team via:

Get to know the product roadmap and development cycle:

???? Within your first year, you’ll…

Share knowledge and mentor peers. We intentionally hire for different skillsets and passions and believe that everyone has their own brand of genius to share!

Own a specific part of the product you’re interested in.

Have a portfolio of awesome things that you’ve shipped throughout the year.

????️ What’s the hiring process like?

We can’t wait to read your resume and (hopefully personality-filled) cover letter! Let us know what excites you about front end engineering, and help us get to know you better!

If we think we might be a good fit for you, we’ll set up a 30 minute phone chat with Naomi Day, our Front End Manager! They’ll tell you more about the role, and get a chance to hear about your experiences.

Next will be a second 30 minute phone interview with our Head of Engineering Rafe Goldberg, where we’ll dive a bit more into your background.

Then we’ll invite you to an "onsite" interview conducted over Zoom! These usually take 3.5 to 5 hours including an hour break in between. We are able to be flexible with the schedule and split it up over two days if that works best for you! We start with a 15-minute get-to-know-you with the Engineering Team so you can meet the people you’ll be working with, and then have you talk with people one-on-one later on.

We’ll let you know how things went within a week! If it still seems like a good fit all around, we’ll extend you an offer! If not, we will update you to let you know so you aren’t left hanging.

✨ Our benefits include…

Unlimited PTO with a three-week minimum. ????

Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for you, and 50% for your dependents. ????

A One Medical membership. ????⚕️

A wellness stipend for therapy of up to $350 per month. ????

A gym or fitness stipend of up to $150 per month. ????️

One-to-one donation matching of up to $1,000 per year. ????

Twelve weeks of paid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child. ????

Work from home office stipend of $500. ????

For fully remote employees, a stipend of $300 per month is available for a co-working space. ????????

Three offsite retreats per year to get together with coworkers and plan for the quarter ahead. ✈️

Take a look at our handbook for more information on our benefits! ????

Not sure if you’d be the right fit? Apply anyway! We’d love to see your application.
