Electric Era is hiring a Sr. Power Electronics Engineer to own the design of a custom DC/DC converter and to help lead the design of the v3 electrical architecture for the the Electric Era PowerNode charging station. You will be working with a cross functional engineering team consisting of full stack software, mechanical and electrical engineers to deliver the leading performance and lowest cost bidirectional power converter for applications in EV fast charging.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design of a 100 kW-class DC/DC isolated power converter, managing the entire lifecycle from conceptualization through design reviews, prototyping, validation, and production.
Collaborate with the mechanical engineering team to develop robust housing and cooling systems, ensuring reliable outdoor operation of the electrical components.
Design with a focus on compliance and manufacturability, taking charge of EMC and safety certification efforts to meet industry standards.
Utilize power circuit simulation software intelligently (e.g., SPICE, PLECS) to optimize the performance and efficiency of power circuits.
Direct or personally undertake the layout of multi-layer power PCBs, ensuring signal integrity and addressing electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) concerns.
Demonstrate expertise in debugging EMC test failures and implementing corrective measures to bring designs into compliance with regulatory standards.
Leverage 6-10 years of electronics design experience to contribute valuable insights and innovations to the team.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; Master’s degree is a plus.
Proven professional experience spanning 6-10 years, showcasing a robust portfolio of successful project work.
Proficiency in schematic entry and PCB layout, with knowledge of Altium considered a plus.
Familiarity with bench power supplies, loads, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
Knowledge of high-voltage safety principles, design for isolation, and hi-pot testing.
Expertise in thermal design for integrated circuits, power devices, and battery cells.
A meticulous documentation mindset in schematic design and process execution.
Passion for contributing to the mission of decarbonizing the transportation industry.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Enthusiasm for embracing multiple roles and collaborating across disciplines within a small team.
