Senior Research Associate/Associate Scientist

Adverum is a clinical stage AAV-based gene therapy company targeting unmet medical needs in ocular diseases. We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Senior Research Associate / Associate Scientist with molecular and cellular biology experience to join our team in our Redwood City office. This individual will work in a cross-functional team to support research and development of novel vector technologies and IND-enabling studies.
What you'll do: Support the execution of assays for discovery and translational research. Assay read-outs include ELISA, qPCR, FACS, SDS-PAGE, agarose gels, western blot, and flow cytometry.
Produce, purify, and characterize complex biological molecules like DNA, RNA, protein, and AAV.
Maintenance, transfection and transduction of different cell types.
Perform sample processing from a variety of tissue types.
Order and maintain sufficient inventory of materials and reagents for planned laboratory activities.
Perform routine lab maintenance.
Follow established protocols and SOPs.
Ensure accurate laboratory records and project updates.
Participate in team meetings and present technical data.
Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, small company environment.
Be involved with development, qualification, and transfer of bioanalytical methods to support preclinical and clinical assays
Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
About you: Minimum of a biological science or similar Bachelor’s degree with 6-8 years of relevant experience in a biotech company, or a Master’s degree with 4-5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficient in a variety of molecular biology techniques such as recombinant DNA technology, cloning, isolation/analysis of nucleic acids, PCR, RT-PCR, and qPCR is required.
Expertise in sterile tissue culture techniques including transfection, transduction, developing and maintaining cell lines is a must.
Hands-on experience with the execution of bioassays using technologies including ddPCR, ELISA, MSD, Luminex, flow cytometry and cell-based potency assays are advantageous.
Experienced in sample processing methods to support protein and nucleic acid detection from a variety of animal/human tissues.
Experience with other analytical methods of gene expression and protein detection is advantageous.
Background and understanding of AAV biology and ocular biology are preferable.
Experienced with data analysis software like GraphPad Prism, FlowJo, SoftMax Pro, and Geneious Prime.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.
Well organized and able to multitask with attention to detail while maintaining electronic notebook and accurate records.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interpret, summarize, and present scientific results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
$95,000 - $113,000 a year The salary range for this position is $95,000 USD to $113,000 USD annually, with the opportunity to earn an annual bonus. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, including education, length of experience , location , and market data. Employees in this position are eligible to participate in the applicable Company equity incentive award plan. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.
