Summary Job Description
Lewis & Clark College seeks to hire a full-time College Advisor in the College Advising Center (CAC). The CAC supports undergraduate students, faculty, and the liberal arts tradition of Lewis & Clark College. College advisors, in collaboration with faculty advisors and campus partners, help undergraduate students navigate their educational paths, respond to challenges, and achieve their academic goals. Responsible for a caseload of approximately 500-550 undergraduates, college advisors provide holistic advising to students across all class years and all majors, and coordinate proactive outreach to ensure that students are making progress toward degree requirements.
Essential Functions
Provide holistic, developmentally-appropriate academic advising to Lewis & Clark undergraduates related to selecting courses, registering, choosing majors, and developing graduation plans
Conduct strategic outreach to students who are under-enrolled, on academic standing, in need of declaring a major, and students receiving notifications of academic concern
Support students experiencing academic difficulty by scheduling individual meetings, developing success plans, and working to ensure students have access to available campus resources
Advise students from a wide array of personal and academic backgrounds with sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented student populations
Maintain accurate records of advising meetings and correspondence
Participate in weekly staff meetings, as well as campus meetings and events related to student retention and advising
Collaborate with campus partner offices in support of student success and persistence, and serve on campus-wide committees as needed
Be available to parents and families - in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) - as related to students' academic progress
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of advising, counseling, or teaching experience in higher education or a related field OR Master's degree in higher education, counseling, teaching, or a related field and 1-3 years of advising, counseling or teaching experience in higher education or a related field
Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with various constituencies, including campus administrators, teaching faculty, and support staff
Ability to establish a rapport, maintain harmonious working relationships, and work empathetically with diverse student populations
Ability to work both independently and contribute to a team environment while effectively managing a large student caseload; strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to balance the demands of concurrent and potentially competing priorities and deadlines
An understanding of the purpose and advantages of a liberal arts education
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated academic advising/support experience at the college level
Demonstrated success in working with underrepresented students, first generation college students, and transfer students
Knowledge of higher education organizational structures and operational procedures
Understanding of academic support programming and initiatives including study strategies, learning styles, and time management
Experience working with advising databases/CRMs
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
Demonstrated understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Eligibility to Work
