Technical Artist

, CA, United States

Bonfire Studios is seeking a passionate and experienced Technical Artist to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a vital role in shaping our future by defining and streamlining art workflows, creating custom tools, and collaborating closely with various disciplines to bring our games to life. This position offers flexibility to tailor your contributions based on your expertise, allowing you to focus on either Character Art or Pipeline Art.

Please note: While this role is open to both Character and Pipeline Tech Artists, some responsibilities and qualifications may differ slightly between the two areas of focus. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply and highlight their relevant experience in their cover letter and resume.

In this role you will: Develop and maintain tools and pipelines in Maya and Unity to optimize artist workflows and asset creation.

Proactively identify and implement solutions to empower artists through technology and process improvements.

Partner with artists, designers, and engineers to define and implement efficient asset creation workflows.

For Character Tech Artists : Create character rigs and procedural animation using Maya and Unity. Collaborate with animators to iterate on character design and bring characters to life through rigging, skinning, and animation techniques. Bonus: Experience with writing Python and using UI frameworks like Qt.

For Pipeline Tech Artists : Help design and develop DCC & Unity tools and technology to support artistic vision.

We're excited about you because: You have 5+ years of experience as a technical artist in games.

You have experience developing and evolving game art pipelines and tools (Maya and Unity).

You demonstrate strong technical skills, including experience with scripting languages like Python and UI frameworks like Qt.

You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy working with diverse teams.

You hold a strong passion for games and the creative process.

You embrace a growth mindset and are eager to learn and contribute.

As a Character Tech Artist , you have proven experience creating character rigs and procedural animations, and familiarity with rigging, skinning, and animation techniques. Bonus: Experience working on a live game and supporting live content pipelines.

As a Pipeline Tech Artist , you have experience with real-time rendering concepts like writing shaders and monitoring graphics performance, and proficiency in C# programming for developing efficient and maintainable game tools and functionalities. Bonus: Experience with procedurally generated content.

Why you'll love working at Bonfire Studios: Have strong values that include transparency, ownership, and trust. We are a people-first studio that also strives for a high bar of excellence in our creations.

Celebrate craft expertise because we are a small, tight-knit group of highly experienced game developers who are as passionate about our team as we are our game.

Offer opportunities to learn and contribute beyond your focused discipline in areas of interest or passion.

Practice candor and feedback, leveling ourselves and each other up in the process.

Play games and have fun together, kindling our own love for games and learning about each other.

The base salary range for this position is $155,400 - $249,867. The range doesn't tell the whole story - we are always open to candidates at different stages in their careers and consider candidates' potential impact holistically, not just their years of experience or skill level. There is also more to our total comp package than salary, we offer equity to every new hire as well as a comprehensive benefits package and more. We will be happy to share more about our compensation opportunities when we chat with you!
