23andMe’s Growth, Engagement, and Monetization (GEM) team is looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer to help create and grow applications that support our business units across Marketing, E-commerce, Sales and Finance. As a Senior Software Engineer, some of your responsibilities will encompass the following: software delivery ownership, mentorship, personal contribution, and continuous improvement and advocacy of our technical practices.

You will guide and design compelling new features and contribute innovative solutions to challenging engineering problems to make those features real and perform. Leading by example, you will share your product delivery wisdom, wit, and experience across the team. Join our growing team and enjoy a collaborative environment with small project teams working on a variety of tasks ranging from web and application development to genotype data processing. You will be leading our efforts in building and scaling applications to streamline and automate our business processes.

What You'll Do

Develop and deliver secure, high-quality code in a timely manner.

Work closely with product, design, and engineering teams to contribute to the strategic vision of our product roadmap.

Analyze functional and technical requirements to create clear and effective architectures and designs.

Design APIs tailored for cloud-based applications.

Promote technical excellence by participating in code and design reviews to enhance the quality of our projects.

Continuously refine and upgrade existing systems to meet the objectives of our ambitious product roadmap.

Mentor other engineers and become an important part of the tapestry of our engineering culture.

What You'll Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline (with 6+ years in the industry), or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience (with 10+ years in a similar role preferred).

Proven track record in leading projects from the initial planning stage through to successful completion.

Demonstrated ability to mentor and support the professional development of fellow engineers.

Highly collaborative and team-oriented perspective, with an ability to thrive in cooperative settings.

Familiarity with Python or JavaScript, or a strong foundation in multiple programming languages and paradigms.

Preferred

Comprehensive knowledge of web security practices and cryptography concepts.

Prior experience in developing financial applications, such as Order Management Systems, Billing platforms, or E-commerce solutions.

Pay Transparency 23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area.  The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

San Francisco Bay Area Base Pay Range

Sr. Software Engineer I: $150,000 - $224,000 USD

Sr. Software Engineer II: $158,000 - $238,000 USD
