Department Description
Patient Care Resources (PCR) provides 24/7 RN and HUSC Float Pool coverage to a variety of inpatient areas within the Patient Care Services division. The department has over 200 employees, both per diem and career. In addition, the department also has several programs that provide support to the inpatient units: Float Pool, Per Diem Pool, STAN Program, Action Team, Rapid Response Team, SOS Nurses, and Children's Hospital Seasonal Float Team.

Responsibilities
Registered nurses on the Action/RRT Team within the Patient Care Resources Department care for adult and pediatric patients with a variety of critical care needs. Patient conditions include all patients in various adult and pediatric specialty units, with both critical and acute care needs, as well as medical and surgical needs.
The Action/Rapid Response Team (RRT) position provides direct patient care to a diverse patient population, often providing emergent critical care nursing. The Action/RRT nurse coordinates and assists in: Admissions to inpatient units, ER, and PACU; Provides staffing assistance on units experiencing high acuity including but not limited to MCI, Code Green, or other unplanned staffing needs; Assisting in Radiology procedures, GI Lab procedures, Transport of patients from ER, inpatient units, Diagnostic areas including out of hospital transports; Responds to RRT requests; Action calls; Code Blue; Code Stroke; Code Sepsis; and Code help pages; Participate in annual training for codes as well as departmental skills lab; Participate in Code Blue debriefs and data collection associated with Code Blue Events; Provides Procedural Sedation; Assists with IV starts, including the use of Ultrasound placement, Lab draws, and participation in Quality Improvement projects at the department or divisional level.
The CN II/CNIII identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned and promotes compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations.
Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
Required Qualifications
Experience in an acute care hospital, with 3 years adult critical care and 1-year pediatric critical care in the past 7 years.
PALS and ACLS certification (must be from the American Heart Association).
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
Possession of current California RN License.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Knowledge of current trends in nursing.
Commitment to excellence in patient care.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Demonstrates accountability and professionalism.
Adapts to change in a positive, professional and productive manner.
Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.
Knowledge of performance improvement and evidence-based practice.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, taking into consideration protective interventions, development (behavioral and physical) and physiological characteristics specific to the patients
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Reference report reflect an overall meets or exceeds rating.
Ability to work overtime, float to other areas and work weekends and holidays.
Ability to safely lift 25 lbs. and assist in moving patients, and stand on feet over extended periods.
