POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides indirect nursing care to patients identified within the geriatric Medicare managed group in accordance with UHS policies and standards.
Supports and promotes University Health System values to ensure patient/guest relations.
Performs the nursing process in a safe therapeutic manner.
Maintains, facilitates and promotes department policies and standards.
Refugee Health Services works with new legal US residents arriving in the US for the first time to provide them with vaccinations, infectious disease lab screenings, and a physical by a provider.
We work primarily with refugees, asylees, Cuban/Haitian entrants, Special Immigrant Visa Holders, and humanitarian parolees.
We do not provide general primary care, point of care, or continuity of care.
Since we are a government funded entity, we have a fair amount of paperwork and documentation.
Our LVNs provide a nurse intake, help with vaccinations, and provide class D medications to patients.
Staff duties and hours are fairly consistent from day to day.
Our patient population is very diverse, with people from all over the world coming to our clinic.
Accordingly, we often use interpreters for our visits.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

At least one year experience in direct patient care or working with managed care plans is preferred. Understanding of Medicare and geriatric population experience preferred. Current American Heart Association, Basic Cardiac Life Support and Healthcare Provider card required.
ACLS certification may be required based on site location. Various certifications may be required based on location site.
LICENSURE

Must possess a current license to practice Vocational Nursing in the State of Texas. Must have a current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider or AHA BLS Instructor Provider card.
