Customer Service Liaison

Under the direction of the District's Public & Legislative Affairs Information Branch Manager (an Information Officer II), the incumbent (Public Information Officer - Customer Service Liaison) will perform complex professional and technical tasks associated primarily with the District's Maintenance Division, to respond to the public and local agency partners as a representative of Caltrans District 10, managing the District's Customer Service Request Program. The PIO/Customer Service Liaison will also act as a back up to other Public Information Officers in developing and delivering general communications campaigns; providing proactive and reactive responses to media; writing and editing documents; collecting/analyzing/reporting data; using various media platforms to disseminate information; and supporting internal and external communications.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Information Officer I examination list. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions

Position is located in Stockton, San Joaquin County.

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

Due to the nature of the position, frequent travel is required throughout the eight counties of District 10 boundaries or infrequently statewide to visit litter abatement/ encampment sites, project sites, and/or meet with stakeholders and partners and work varying hours, receive telephone calls at all hours of the day and night. Possession of a valid driver's license and current defensive driver's certification are required. The incumbent will be exposed to computers, various lighting conditions, including but not limited to artificial lighting in a standard work cubicle in the office setting or at an approved telecommute location. Incumbent will be required to stand or sit for prolonged periods. However, due to periodic problems with the heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate. Must be able to work at a keyboard and focus on complex tasks for long periods of time. Must be able to organize and prioritize large volumes of work documents. When participating in events, may need to work outdoors in varying temperatures for several hours at a time. Overtime may be required, and vacations may be restricted during peak times and fiscal year-end closing.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
