To be responsible for the general administration of the engineering department including proper maintenance and repair of all buildings, fixtures, fittings, and equipment as well as technical improvements, preventive maintenance, and utilities consumption control in the hotel. Required to contribute ideas and suggestions to improve profitability of the hotel. To provide guidelines and assistance to Senior Service Managers/Service Manager (Asst. Maintenance Manager, Audio Visual Manager, Maintenance Manager, and Service Manager) in his department.
Responsibilities:
Operation of M&E plant and equipment: Organize engineering staff and control staff to correctly operate all M&E plant and equipment to suit the needs of the hotel.
Supervision of Senior Service Manager functions for hotels: Conduct monthly quality assurance review of the hotel. Prepares report for Maintenance Manager. Provides technical solutions when problems arise in the hotel.
Minor Improvement Projects: Plans, designs, and implementation of minor projects, improvement of plant efficiency, or reducing other operating and maintenance costs.
Preventive Maintenance Programme: Plan and implement preventive maintenance program, try to achieve "0" defects for all equipment in the hotel.
Training: Provides training of all department staff to ensure efficient operation, proper maintenance and repair to the hotel equipment as well as good morale. Ensuring there is good morale in the department.
Meetings: Conducts monthly internal meeting to keep staff informed and to seek feedback. Conducts daily briefing and distributes work assignments. Prepares and attends P&L, Div. Heads Meetings. Analyze ways to improve it.
Energy & Utility Management: Control utilities supply on a daily basis. Minimize utility consumption. Implements formal energy management program.
Budgeting/Capex/Cost Control: Prepare annual budget and Capex.
Guest Relations: Attend GM's cocktail party as required. Communicate with VIP guests: enquires about their stay in the hotel, comfort, preferences, and problems. Comments or complaints to be acted on immediately. Provides assistance wherever possible.
Property Management: Delegates work for proper implementation and control.
Human Resources: Staffing Performance Appraisal Maintenance Contracts.
External Liaison: Liaises with government and statutory bodies to ensure compliance with regards to rules and regulations.
Inventory/Spare Parts Control: Maintains and monitors inventory on a regular basis.
Safety: Identifies hazards and potential safety concerns. Takes necessary action. Trains and supervises emergency response team as required. Coordinate life safety with security department as appropriate.
Requirements:
Minimum 8 years working experience in any industrial concern or 4 years as Chief Engineering in an international class hotel.
Diploma in Engineering or Degree in Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering.
Very much a people person who is able to work closely with staff on a daily basis, a hands-on operational approach at all times.
Being able to adapt to change with a flexible approach and a never-say-never attitude.
Leadership training involves guiding people with a mindset of accepting nothing but the best.
Good guest interaction skills are essential, along with a command of written and verbal English.
