DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Department of Health Services is one of the nation’s largest and most experienced providers of LGBTQIA-specialized primary care, behavioral health and related services. Our mission to help LGBTQIA people lead healthier, happier lives is supported by our comprehensive array of client-centered services including primary care, mental health, psychiatry, sexual health, pharmacy, case management, nutrition, clinical research, housing services and a food pantry. The Center is one of a handful of Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation specializing in serving low-income, medically underserved LGBTQIA people.

JOB SUMMARY: The Associate Director – Mental Health spearheads cutting-edge program development, ensures seamless and efficient client placement, inspires and motivates staff and interns, rigorously monitors performance improvement, and delivers compassionate and effective direct client services. Collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals across multiple service delivery sites, the Associate Director advises other departments within the Center on best practices related to mental health under the direction of the Director of Mental Health. Publicly representing the Center on tasks forces, at conferences, and in media when requested, the successful candidate demonstrates skill in addressing and overcoming barriers to care for populations with high trauma incidence and negative past mental healthcare experience.

Working with the Director of Mental Health, the Associate Director helps the Director of Mental Health ensure that the department remains revenue positive by monitoring all aspects of the revenue lifecycle, particularly ensuring that the department achieves budgeted visit targets. The AD ensures that clinical programming is high quality, innovative and responsive to the needs of the LGBTQIA community. They oversee private and public grants funding programming and are responsible for actively seeking additional funding to sustain/expand services as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist Director of Mental Health with planning, implementation and management of all department components.

• Recruit, select, onboard, mentor, and coach staff in an inspiring and motivating way.

• Lead initiatives to improve patient scheduling, including shifting responsibilities from administrative staff to clinicians and developing reporting and training tools.

• Provide on-site leadership and guidance to Mental Health staff at least 3 days each week.

• Develop and maintain standards of care relevant to focus populations and clinical services.

• Collaborate with operations department to ensure positive client experience and quality clinical care.

• Provide individual, group, crisis, and walk-in counseling services, including initial intakes, both in person and through telehealth.

• Provide clinical and management supervision to trainees and staff clinicians.

• Review supervisees’ notes & maintain timely chart notes using the EHR, code visits as appropriate.

• Lead and participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.

• Promote sound clinical practice by ensuring compliance with applicable legal, ethical and behavioral health care standards.

• Ensure timely submission of contract reports and grants, coordinate preparation with the Director of Mental Health.

• Achieve financial goals, including meeting budgeted productivity standards for Mental Health department.

• Participate in staff meetings as directed by Director of Mental Health.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.

• A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.

• Minimum 5 years’ experience managing and scaling teams of 10+ people with strong financial and clinical outcomes.

• Currently licensed and in good standing as a Licensed Psychologist (PhD or PsyD), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the State of California.

• Hybrid position requiring a minimum of three days on-site per work week.

• Documented experience creating successful cross-departmental/cross-organizational relationships.

• Strong leadership skills including team building, coaching, counseling, motivating, and evaluating staff using a racial equity lens.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, leadership experience.

• Computer skills and knowledge including EHR, Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and data reporting systems.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment
