Position Overview: The Construction Project Manager will report directly to the Vice President of Construction and provide on-site oversight for projects from inception to completion, taking charge of all aspects of project delivery. Collaboration with company engineering and the VP of Construction is essential to ensure adherence to standards, delivering safe and high-quality results in an efficient, economical manner. Additionally, the candidate will collaborate and strategize with peers within Carbon Free, at CarbonFrees industrial partner organizations (including major players in the steel industry), and construction industry counterparts, to ensure cost-effective project management. The position will be primarily located at the construction site, but will also require travel to, and at times extended stays, at CarbonFrees headquarters.
The position will require other travel as necessary for project delivery.
Responsibilities:
Manage planning, estimating, permitting, scheduling, budgeting, risk analysis, material procurement, property agreements, engineering services, bid process preparation, contractor selection assistance, field construction monitoring, participant in start-up and commission, project close-out, and tie-ins with existing utilities.
Establish scope, schedule, and cost baselines, driving change management to assess progress against plans and identify corrective actions when necessary.
Work closely with the Construction VP and company engineering, procurement, contract administration, and other departments to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality construction that aligns with policies, practices, procedures, and standards.
Successfully complete construction projects meeting all specified requirements, fostering relationships with external stakeholders such as municipalities, industrial hosts, and local authorities.
Manage project contracts effectively, ensuring accurate and timely schedule updates and invoicing.
Cultivate strong team relationships across both field and office settings, with project success hinging on the ability to deliver all projects safely, reliably, efficiently, within budget, and on schedule, while avoiding significant environmental or regulatory issues.
Monitor and communicate project progress related to schedule milestones, approved expenditures, status updates, material management, and land services requirements.
Conduct continuous monitoring and evaluation of project risks and compliance with host safety regulations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
10+ years of experience working in construction, preferably in roles of increasing responsibility. Experience specifically related to industrial plant construction is highly valued.
5 or more years of experience managing union construction projects, including handling project budgets and schedules.
A deep understanding of construction techniques, materials, and equipment used in industrial plant construction is necessary. Strong project management skills to oversee complex construction projects from conception to completion.
Familiar with relevant regulations and permitting processes related to industrial plant construction is necessary to ensure that projects are completed in compliance with legal requirements, knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards is required.
Adept at finding solutions to unexpected issues that arise during the construction process.
