About the role & team: Do you thrive in the intricate world of network protocols and system programming? Do you relish building robust backends and automating the complex dance of infrastructure management? If so, join us as a Staff Infrastructure Software Engineer and shape our production Infrastructure. We seek a driven and experienced engineer to spearhead the development and optimization of our critical infrastructure. You'll wear multiple hats, diving deep into network design, crafting efficient Linux systems code, and orchestrating automation that makes everything hum seamlessly. While this role is hands-on, there’s also the opportunity to provide technical leadership and guidance for junior engineers, sharing your expertise and shaping a culture of excellence. The Software Platform Infrastructure team works closely with other software engineering teams throughout the company to ensure that Robotics operating system and software delivery is reliable, scalable, and efficient. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team of folks with SWE, SRE, and systems engineer skill sets.

About the work: Design, develop, and maintain core infrastructure components, focusing on software defined networking including protocols, routing, and traffic management. Deep-dive into Linux systems programming, crafting performance-optimized solutions for high reliability and scalability. Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to ensure secure and efficient infrastructure operations. Develop and maintain backend services using Python, Go, and/or C++ with best practices and design patterns. Apply SRE principles to monitor, troubleshoot, and proactively improve infrastructure performance and stability. Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and learning environment. Lead by example by providing code reviews and evangelizing engineering excellence across the Software Platform team. Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in networking, systems programming, and automation.

Qualifications: 7+ years of experience in infrastructure software development, SRE, production engineering, network engineering, and/or backend service development. Experience in building and shipping high quality, scalable infrastructure. 5+ years of experience in C++ or Go as well as a scripting language like Python. In-depth expertise in Linux systems programming (especially around bootloaders, connectivity, memory management, filesystems, kernel, and drivers) and network protocols (IPSec, TCP/IP, routing, DNS, etc.). Experience with infrastructure automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet. Strong understanding of software delivery pipelines and CI/CQ best practices. Fantastic communication, collaboration, and leadership skills. A passion for problem-solving, innovation, and continuous learning. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.

Bonus Points: In-depth understanding of build systems like Bazel & release best practices. Experience in implementing security focused infrastructure features. Experience with containerization technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and other container orchestration tools. Work on debugging, tracing, monitoring, and logging tooling.
