Key Responsibilities: Responsible for owning the development and implementation of environmental sustainability strategies as part of United's overall global dedication to zero out greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 without relying on voluntary carbon offsets. Lead a team of sustainability professionals to implement programs and initiatives passionate about GHG reductions, ESG reporting, technology and solution investments, commercial and customer engagements, and overall corporate responsibility related to environmental impact. Engage in a cross-functional leadership team to refine the overall environmental strategy. In partnership with leadership, define and implement priorities addressing customer engagement, supply chain, product replacement, communications and more across the value chain.
Collaborate across key internal collaborators to define and implement United's ESG climate strategy, including voluntary and required disclosure reporting, governance teamwork, creation and management, performance tracking, communication and more.
Facilitate execution of the ESG climate strategy in collaboration with United leadership, business units, and external collaborators. Working with the cross-functional team, define and implement United's approach to data collection, analysis, assurance, reporting, publication, including greenhouse gas accounting, tracking and reporting.
Lead a team that supports United's decarbonization initiatives including fuel reduction, supply chain engagement, commercial and customer engagements, policy advocacy, product replacement and more in support of United's climate targets.
Demonstrate technical knowledge and understanding of the environmental impact of United's initiatives to advise real time and forecasted emissions targets.
Maintain knowledge of legislation, market trends, technology, and decarbonization impacts.
Lead effective teams using technical knowledge and experience combined with business insight to provide thoughtful decision making and mentorship in strategic implementation of United’s objectives and initiatives.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree - Environmental studies or related area
Minimum 12+ years of environmental or ESG experience
7 years of managerial experience
Minimum 3 years management of ESG programs or projects such as experience with GHG protocol, CDP, IFRS, or other relevant ESG frameworks/enablers
Knowledge of GHG accounting methodologies required
Experience with emerging ESG climate frameworks required
Experience in evaluating sophisticated business challenges and developing pragmatic solutions with a senior level multi-functional team
Strong business and financial acumen to evaluate potential strategies and opportunities relevant to our business
Experience with stakeholder engagement with key groups including communities, government officials, NGOs, employees, etc.
Strong interpersonal and judgment skills to lead cross-divisional teams towards collective
Strong analytical skills, strategic/innovative thinking, and long-term vision
Ability to “scan the horizon” and apply risk/benefit approach to emerging issues
Strong communication and presentation skills with experience presenting to senior management and/or external audiences required
Proficient computer skills including WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK, and PowerPoint
