Department Summary:

MITRE’s Systems Security Engineering Department is seeking a quality-focused Cybersecurity Engineer with experience executing all phases of the Systems Engineering life cycle including concept, proposal, planning, requirements analysis, implementation, integration, verification, transition, validation, operations, and sustainment to ensure resilient and secure solutions for sponsor needs. This is an opportunity for a technically sharp self-starter to lead efforts defining, designing, and developing capability to defend critical national assets. The engineer will help sponsors understand the cybersecurity environment, contribute to experimentation and development of next-generation capability. and influence capability investment decisions.

This is an opportunity to advance the science and practice of systems security engineering. The right candidate will enjoy a fast-paced teaming environment, as well as investigating and integrating cutting-edge technology, and contributing to advanced security concepts. We desire innovators that can lead efforts building security into large engineering projects and acquisition efforts.

To succeed in this position, you must be a subject matter expert in a broad range of security topics ranging from strategy and planning, governance and management, to protection, detection, mitigation, and cyber and military operations. You will need excellent verbal and written communication skills to promote your findings, make actionable recommendations, and present innovative ideas to the Senior Government Sponsors.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Advise sponsors in developing and acquiring trustworthy secure cyber physical systems

Develop engineering trade analysis for cost, performance and scalability for systems security capabilities

Provide technical analysis to program managers for Critical Design Reviews, Program Management Reviews, Independent Technical Review Teams, and engineering document reviews

Research and develop unique, cutting-edge technical capabilities and processes assessing systems and technologies for resilience and security

Serve as systems security and cybersecurity subject matter expert (SME) to stakeholders and collaborators

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar field and 5+ years of applicable experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience

Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance

Documented success in the practical application of security technologies: e.g., cryptographic, cross domain, IDS/IPS, network analysis, endpoint protection

Familiarity with United States Space Force (USSF) mission systems (e.g., Global Positioning System (GPS), Satellite Control Network (SCN), Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment (ITW/AA))

Excellent writing and communications skills

Hands on proficiency using emerging cyber technologies

Familiarity leading capability development and integration efforts

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar field

Preference given to qualified candidates with active and advanced US Government clearances

Eligibility for a Top Secret clearance via a Single Scope Background Investigation

Ability to support relevant space cyber exercises, such as Hack-a-Sat (https://hackasat.com)

Familiarity with Cross Domain Solution (CDS) technologies and approval process

Training on Splunk Enterprise

Familiarity with military operations

Familiarity with defensive cyberspace operations

Familiarity with Agile software development approaches and DevSecOps environments.
