Scope of Position:
Welding Instructor will perform a variety of routine duties, as needed, to teach lecture based courses in general welding theory, metallurgy, welding print reading, weld inspection, and the preparation of students to complete the CWI exam. Welding instructor will also perform a variety of routine duties, as needed, to teach hands-on based courses in oxyfuel cutting and welding, plasma cutting, air arc gouging, mechanized cutting, plate and pipe welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, structural fabricating, and repair and maintenance. The courses will have students from different backgrounds, ethnicity, nationalities, gender, ages, religions, or disabilities in the classroom and in the lab. The welding instructor must use a variety of teaching methods such as lectures and demonstrations and using audiovisual and technological aids to supplement the presentations. Course(s) will meet during the daytime twice a week from 0800-1230 and/or 1300 – 1730 and/or 1730-2200.
Key Measurable Expectations
Prepare competency-based objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines and requirements of the college, State and Federal initiatives ensuring it meets the college and State performance measures.
Assist in the development of annual goals for program improvement; revise and update program curriculum using competency-based curriculum materials, as needed.
Assist in organizing program of practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in welding professions, and lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology; prepares outline of instructional programs and studies and assembles materials to be presented; reviews with supervisor, as needed.
Instruct students in subject areas, i.e., use, maintenance, and the safe operation of tools and equipment, codes or regulations related to the
Minimum Qualifications: 2000 clock hours of verified occupational experience in welding technology;
Must be tactful, have good interpersonal skills and sound judgment.
Possesses good organizational skills; knowledge of record keeping procedures, including the ability to collect and organize data and information.
Working knowledge of instructional theory, basic education principles, practices and methodologies, the developmental process, competency-based curricula, and general classroom and lab practices.
Working knowledge and skill with, oxyfuel, plasma, air arc, SMAW , GMAW , FCAW -G, FCAW -F, and GTAW on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum with plate and pipe welding.
Drivers license required, Class C or higher
Preferred Qualifications: Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or other advanced degree from an accredited college or University in Welding Technology, Industrial Technology Education, Agriculture Education, or related field;
Illinois High School Teaching Licensure or ability to obtain;
Prior teaching experience
Pass D1.1 or ASME XI welding performance test;
Certified Welding Inspector; AND /OR
Senior Certified Welding Inspector; AND /OR
Certified Welding Supervisor; AND /OR
Physical Demands Physical Demands Lifting (minimum lbs. required) - 100lbs, additional items (identify) - Hot environment, sharp materials
