Volunteer Engagement Coordinator

The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator works alongside leadership staff to develop and maintain a robust volunteer program. Core duties include the design and implementation of recruitment, training, development, evaluation, stewardship, and retention systems to ensure the organization has a pool of dedicated volunteers to fulfill its mission. The ideal candidate is an energetic and enthusiastic individual with a solid understanding of volunteer management. The candidate should also understand nonprofit operations and fundraising. This role will work closely with Executive and Development leadership to develop and manage an efficient and positive volunteer experience.
Responsibilities
Understand and exhibit all our core values
Lead, manage, supervise and keep interns accountable. Facilitate team meetings effectively. Evaluate interns through surveys and reviews providing constructive feedback
Be diligent in getting to know volunteers and understand their connection to the organization
Perform quarterly organizational assessments to determine volunteer needs across all programs
Create and implement ongoing volunteer recruitment strategies for all programs in collaboration with the communications team and program directors
Assist volunteers through the online intake process to ensure a positive user experience, facilitate orientations and trainings in-person and via Zoom
Perform volunteer interviews, reference checks and initial volunteer screening determine potential risk and/or liability
Develop and evaluate metrics around volunteer experience and retention
Support Development Team and identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with volunteers
Provide ongoing support for volunteers and responsively address any concerns they have promptly
Create appropriate volunteer materials as needed and distribute
Identify and report any and all infractions of volunteers with regard to legal parameters, confidentiality or child protection requirements
Establish and maintain relationships with community partners who provide volunteerism
Participate in volunteer recruitment fairs, events or presentations of the volunteer program
Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports to leadership staff on volunteer activity
Maintain volunteer database
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or a combination of education and experience
3 to 5 years of experience in nonprofit organizations, volunteer management, or other related field
Exceptional communication skills with internal as well as external audiences
Demonstrated excellence in customer relations
Ability to evaluate needs and develop processes to fill them
Strong administrative skills and excellent follow through
A passion for meeting new people, working closely with a team, and collaborative work environment
Requirements
Requires the physical mobility to sit or walk for moderate periods of time and to occasionally carry or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds
Must be able to work some evening and weekend hours as needed
Must have a driver’s license, reliable source of transportation, and ability to travel to program locations or events as needed
