Position Overview:
Thrive LA is seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to lead the organization through its most transformational growth phase. This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of the organization’s operations, including strategic planning, fundraising, campaign management, ground game operations, advocacy efforts, program development, community engagement, and managing its membership and donor communities. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in nonprofit management, political advocacy, local campaigns, and/or community organizing, along with a fervent passion for enhancing the quality of life in Los Angeles.
The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and will work closely with the co-founders, liaise with the organization’s membership and donor communities, as well as with dedicated consultants, ground game operators, volunteers, and external partners.
This role offers the opportunity for the Executive Director to build and manage their own team, overseeing a suite of operations within the organization. The position provides flexibility in working hours. Although the role is remote, the candidate must live in Los Angeles and be available to attend in-person Board meetings, events, press conferences, and more.
Candidate Qualifications
7-8+ years of experience in nonprofit management, political advocacy, campaigns, or community organizing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Proven track record in nonprofit and political fundraising
Experience in scaling up non-profits and leading organizational growth initiatives.
Exceptional leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills . Proven ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.
Knowledge: Deep understanding of Los Angeles/California’s political landscape, community dynamics, and civic engagement strategies. Knowledge of nonprofit governance and best practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
Network connectivity across communities in Los Angeles, including elected officials, business, labor, and community leaders.
Demonstrated ability to supervise others , support and evaluate colleagues and reports, and maintain high morale and productivity.
Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate the organization's and staff's needs.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Nonprofit Management, or a related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
