Position Summary

LPHI is seeking qualified interns to assist with various departments on projects geared towards their mission. The selected intern may work closely with LPHI staff on literature research, information gathering, brief writing and preparation of presentations, reports, and other dissemination products. Specific projects may focus on tobacco-related health disparities, rural health, and public health emergency response and communications.

LPHI welcomes undergrad and above level students to apply for this internship.

While LPHI is based in New Orleans, remote work is possible within the state of LA. LPHI has a hybrid work environment. Possible in-person meetings may occur during non-COVID times.

Based on your agreement, LPHI offers the following internship opportunities:

Unpaid Internships

Unpaid, non-benefit eligible position.

Commitments are part-time and will range in project length and time periods.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Interns will work directly with the Preceptor and gain experience by:

•Conducting research

•Participating in internal and partner meetings

•Conducting interviews and focus groups with community stakeholders and draft field notes

•Assisting with synthesizing findings and drafting documents

•Supporting LPHI staff in writing papers, reports and articles, and dissemination efforts

•Other duties as assigned by Preceptor

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

•Undergraduate degree or beyond (ie. Masters degree) in progress

•Experience with research

•Excellent written and oral communication

•Interest in public health, health systems, research and/or evaluation methodologies

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

•Strong research and analytical skills

•Excellent writing and communication skills

•Well-organized, self-directed, and able to complete multiple tasks in a timely and efficient manner

•Ability to learn new subject areas quickly

•Excellent attention to detail

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications

•A commitment to actively working in alignment with public health with other social, racial, and economic justice movements

•Ability to function independently and as a team member
