GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking to hire an experienced antitrust litigator to lead the state's antitrust enforcement efforts and its coordination with state, federal, and international enforcers.The Antitrust Division is charged with investigating and prosecuting violations of the Texas Free Enterprise and Antitrust Act and federal antitrust statutes.The Division's caseload consists of highly complex and high-profile investigations and litigation that may involve antitrust violations such as monopolization, conspiracies among competitors, or anticompetitive mergers. Matters investigated or litigated can be local, regional, or national in scope and may be coordinated with other state attorneys general, the Federal Trade Commission, or the U.S. Department of Justice.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

Represents the state's interest as lead counsel in all stages of significant, high-profile, and complex antitrust litigation, investigations, and transaction reviews at the pretrial, trial, and appellate level in both state and federal court by performing tasks that include: initiating investigations, conducting discovery; preparing legal documents (e.g., pleadings, briefs, memoranda); attending and participating in hearings and trials; and coordinating with other governmental bodies

Provides legal advice, counsel, and assistance to client state agencies and the agency's Executive Administration on significant, complex litigation, investigations, and competition policy matters

With approval from Executive Administration and OAG Press Office, may represent the agency publicly at designated events (e.g., press conferences, meetings, public announcements) regarding significant and high-profile litigation and investigations

Performs related work as assigned

Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions

Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule

Performs work that may require overnight travel

Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.

Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Please consult the State Auditor's website and/or with an HR Specialist for required minimum qualifications.

Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.

Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas

Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas

Eight years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney

Experience performing complex case management

Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines

Excellent organization/administrative skills, including a strong, consistent attention to detail and organized work style

Skill in effective oral and written communication

Skill in conducting effective negotiations

Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making

Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)

Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA

Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 15%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience managing complex antitrust litigation

Experience in antitrust and competition policy

Experience with government enforcement and litigation strategy
