Job Posting Summary

The School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University invites qualified candidates for a 12-month visiting faculty position at the Instructor or Assistant Professor rank in the Physical Therapy program in the School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University beginning September 2024.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

This position will include teaching in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program and assisting in the clinical education component of the curriculum. The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Mercy University is a weekend model program in which the graduate courses are held on 10 weekends each term. Classes occur on campus all day Friday, Saturday and Sundays. During the week faculty are involved on campus in the pro-bono clinic, research, open labs, student and faculty meetings. This faculty line is an opportunity to join engaged, professional, and dedicated colleagues in a CAPTE accredited program. Many opportunities exist for collaboration in teaching and research projects, in addition to growing opportunities for interprofessional collaboration with other School of Health and Natural Sciences faculty, including CD, Exercise Science, OT, OTA, and Physician Assistant. The Program classes have access to the Health Professions Clinical Simulation and Learning Lab space including a Home Health Lab and Movement Lab.: ercy.edu/health-and-natural-sciences/clinical-simulation-and-learning-labs. Many opportunities exist within the School of Health and Natural Sciences for collaboration on teaching, clinical and research projects. To encourage faculty growth, the University offers a host of professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:

+ Excellent administrative and organizational skills

+ Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

+ Ability to work effectively as a member of a dynamic team in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

+ Prior teaching experience in a Physical Therapy Program.

+ Innovative use of educational technology and familiarity with online educational delivery tools such as Blackboard.

+ Experience as a clinically practicing Physical Therapist required. Minimum of 5 years preferred.

+ Experience in teaching, research, inter-professional education and incorporating technology into teaching and professional practice is highly desirable.

+ Experience as a clinical educator of DPT students in a practice setting.

+ Minimum of one to three years of experience in an administrative role in a professional office environment.

+ Demonstrated interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; problem solving, organizational and presentation skills.

+ Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point required.

+ Individual must be detailed oriented, have strong skills in customer service, and be able to be student centered at all times. In addition, ability to work both independently and in teams and work with confidential information.

Education Requirements:

+ Doctorate of Physical Therapy with APTA specialization (minimum)

+ Licensed Physical Therapist in New York (or eligible to become licensed in NY)

Physical/Other Requirements:

+ Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.

+ Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university policies.

Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

Deferred Compensation Plan

All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

Defined Contribution Plan

Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources.
