Network Engineer

Overview
As a Network Engineer at Northwest Federal Credit Union (NWFCU), you will be responsible for installations, administration, monitoring, and maintaining company networks and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications as well as ensure the availability of the local and wide area (LAN/WAN) networking infrastructure and manages the network environment. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the unified communications across the enterprise, comprised of telephone VOIP, instant messaging, and contact center platforms. This includes ensuring the availability of networking infrastructure, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the network environment.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
Takes ownership for planning and managing large and complex project tasks
Formulates network designs and solutions that ensure delivery of project requirements
Evaluate existing network designs and make recommendations for improving efficiency, resiliency, and availability
Lead capacity planning and the development of long‐term strategic goals for networking systems
Develops and delivers presentations to internal audiences
Work with management to develop strategies for automating manual processes
Influences others within job area through explanation of facts, policies and practices
Acquisition & Deployment
Assist in procurement of network hardware, and software in support of implementation and development efforts
Support the deployment of workstations, network devices, servers, printers, scanners, firewalls, encryption systems, and all host security systems
Maintain end‐of‐life documentation of network devices to be used during annual budget planning
Work with Internet Service Providers to acquire and decommission telecommunications circuits
Operational Management
Implement, and administer existing network hardware and equipment. This includes routers, switches, firewalls and UPS units
Perform upgrades of existing network devices to ensure operating systems and hardware components are current
Perform network, server and security audits, review logs for errors and trends, and ensure proper security posture is maintained
Ensure network connectivity between all corporate offices, vendor facilities and cloud environments
Optimize network traffic routing/switching and make updates to optimize efficiency
Establish network connectivity for new branches, corporate offices, and ATM locations
Monitor IT Service Management Systems and respond to incidents, problems or requests related to network services
Create and/or maintain network design diagrams and documentation
Create and/or maintain monitoring and alerting of network services
Coaches and guides team members with less experience
Maintain excellent communication with internal and external parties
Participate in rotational “on‐call” schedules
Remains cognizant of and adheres to NWFCU policies and procedures as well as regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or other technical related field or equivalent experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience supporting all facets of enterprise networks; including LAN/WAN connectivity, Voice Over IP, VPN’s, and network security
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Route Switch/Enterprise, or CCNA with equivalent work experience
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Collaboration/Voice and/or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Security
Demonstrated ability to apply functional knowledge to analyze and resolve complex problems
Views processes and changes holistically and understands connections and impacts of changes on other processes and functions
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external team members
Ability to review and analyze or interpret data and documentation and to make decisions regarding subsequent actions
Ability to work effectively on-site in our Herndon, VA headquarters and equally effectively remotely
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance
