About the role
The Medical Director assists in the management and facilitation of the scientific writing process. You will assess the needs of the client and is responsible for the overall accuracy, quality, and content of all written material. The Medical Director also assists team members in meeting company objectives, goals, and deadlines. You will report to the Vice President, Scientific Services or EVP, Scientific Services
Here's what you'll be doing:
Medical Writing
Work directly with clients and physicians/consultants to develop editorial content
Maintain and follow current editorial and style guidelines
Actively communicate with clients developing plans, budgets, and timelines for projects
Responsible for the writing component of assigned projects, including:
background reading and preparation
outline development
writing of assigned projects
identification/preparation of tables and figures for design production
quality checks and assurance
maintenance of data packages for projects
Editorial
Edit and alter custom communications in AMA style to agreed specifications to meet client requirements
Review and interpret scientific/technical documents and process information into concise and medically accurate scientific communications
Coordinate technical editing to clients expectations
Scientific Team Management
Attend conferences/symposia or other meetings and act as a liaison between us, participants and clients
Work with team members to determine criteria for literature searches and content of data packages
Review editorial assignments and data to ensure medically accurate information to client specifications
Conduct reviews, give feedback and mentor Medical Writers
Aide in the development of departmental guidelines and procedures
Coordinate with internal departments (Creative, Client Services) to develop accurate timelines, monitor projects to ensure deadlines are met
Facilitate planning meetings with internal team members to determine specifications and timelines for individual projects
Alert appropriate team members to services of project requirements beyond those specified by original contractual agreements (i.e. increased scope of work, changed focus)
Coordinate with internal departments (Creative, Client Services) to develop accurate timelines
About you:
Advanced degree in Life Science, Writing, or Pharmacology required
Minimum of 5-7 years' experience in a medical writing or scientific direction capacity
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, work to and within deadlines and to juggle multiple projects
Strong financial, administrative and organization skills, including ability to multi-task
Strong client communication skills – ability to speak and interact with client and faculty members
Keen attention to detail, ability to prioritize responsibilities and work in a team-oriented environment as well as independently
Represent us in a professional manner through appropriate demeanor, behavior and dress
Ability to manage and lead multiple levels of writers
Advanced computer skills, knowledge of Internet searches and Microsoft Windows software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to pack and lift up to 20 lb. boxes or objects
Travel as needed, including weekends
Assist in securing new business by representing the Scientific Services Department at client presentations, providing information, and therapeutic area expertise
Assist in continuing and expanding current business opportunities by maintaining positive client relations
Evaluate new business and assign team members for the most effective project management
