Workplace Status:
Hybrid - This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Tech Center three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.
SDV Team
The Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) team supports the definition, design, and development of continuously improving mobility services. SDV is a new vehicle intelligence platform that will underpin all our future innovations across a wide range of technological advancements, including EVs and expanded automated driving. This means that you can potentially put a fingerprint on the vehicles that drive down the road! Within the Software Defined Vehicle, GM is developing the next generation of embedded platform software to deliver state of the art Infotainment features on the Ultifi platform. This role requires high level of expertise and capability in software coding, development, issue resolution, debugging and analysis for root cause.
Role
As an Android software engineer at GM, you will design and develop high quality embedded software components for GM automotive products. You will execute software tasks spanning the entire software development lifecycle, including planning, requirements analysis, design, code, test, defect resolution, and production release. As a part of Infotainment Software Development group, you will have the opportunity to work on state of the art systems and designs in a rich and challenging team environment.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
Design and develop Android based infotainment solutions for automotive consumer devices.
Responsible for the entire life cycle of the assigned domain, including requirements, system design, development, maintenance of the infotainment software.
Participate in the design of a best-in-class in-vehicle platform for GM infotainment systems.
Follow our software development process where quality comes first and design solutions conform to architectural requirements such as scalability, maintainability, reliability, extensibility, usability and security.
Engage in architecture, feature requirements, design, code, and test case reviews to ensure that the team delivers high quality code on time.
Bridge multiple disciplines, including Engineering, Information Technology, Technical Support, and Marketing, to make appropriate system-level design trade-offs and to identify, capture and refine system requirements and innovation opportunities.
Work on new feature development, as well as maintenance of existing features and bug fixes.
Provide clear and complete documentation based on the definition of the software development process.
Collaborate with team members using the Scrum/Agile development process.
Work closely with various Infotainment teams to support triage and resolution of system issue
Provide, communicate, and support common methodologies among software community
Your Skills & Abilities (Qualifications):
Bachelors Degree in Engineering
5+ years in software development
Software development experience on Linux and Android platform
Development experience with Android frameworks (service, JNI, native service, HAL, etc.), familiar with Android local unit tests and instrumented tests.
Software design and implementation experience in an object-oriented environment
Commercial software development experience with Java, C++ or C
Exposure to SCM tools such as: Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, JIRA
Working knowledge of Scrum/Agile software development process
Ability to diagnose and investigate issues based on limited information
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
Prior experience with vehicle infotainment, telematics or navigation systems
Experience with automotive and/or portable consumer electronic devices
History of success in applying advanced technology to enhance the usability of complex systems is a plus
Experience in communication network protocols like CAN, UART, SPI
Experience with script languages such as Python, Perl or Shell
