Research Assistant_

The Gilman Lab, located within the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, works collaboratively across the Americas to mitigate the burden of diseases that disproportionately affects those living in poverty. Integrating findings from laboratory science, epidemiology, and translational research, our team members pursue cost-effective methods of preventing, understanding, diagnosing, and treating neglected infections such as Chagas disease, neurocysticercosis, diarrheal pathogens, and others.

The Gilman Lab is seeking a **_Research Assistant_** to support several laboratory-based projects, including those related to Alzheimers and Chagas disease. Under the supervision of the PI, the Research Assistant’s primary tasks will involve conducting laboratory protocols related to diagnostic test development and biomarker exploration, writing reports and publications, and presenting findings to relevant stakeholders. The position will also support laboratory maintenance, such as biosafety management, as well as assist in the coordination of personnel involved in projects across countries (U.S.A., Peru, and Bolivia).

**Specific Duties & Responsibilities**

+ Maintain a good working knowledge of all research projects.

+ Develop and perform laboratory protocols, such as ELISAs and PCRs.

+ Analyze data generated in the laboratory using R or other programs.

+ Follow all study Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved protocols and procedures.

+ Comply with all regulatory and institutional requirements related to clinical research. Maintain compliance with HIPAA and IRB regulations and guidelines.

+ Perform administrative duties in support of the Gilman Lab and Tropical Medicine intersession courses.

+ Schedule meetings, create meeting agendas, and record meeting minutes.

+ Assist in data analysis and writing publications, and grant writing.

+ Assist with submission of documents to the IRB.

+ Take initiative in anticipating and responding to staff and research participants’ needs based on awareness of routine and repeated job functions.

+ Attend regular research group meetings (weekly or monthly).

+ Carry out duties and responsibilities with limited supervision but seek clarification when needed.

+ Effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.

+ Regularly update clinical and research staff, verbally and in writing, of progress with job functions.

+ Other duties as assigned by the PIs of the projects.

+ Participate in other research initiatives as workload allows. Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

**Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**

+ Proficiency in R or other statistical computing software's.

+ Ability to work in Microsoft Office, including Teams, Word, and Excel.

+ Advanced computer skills and word-processing, spreadsheet and database knowledge.

+ Experience working in the laboratory.

+ Experience communicating with persons of diverse cultures and nationalities.

+ Ability to problem solve and be productive with little supervision.

+ Reliability, flexibility, professional manner, and organizational skills are essential.

**Minimum Qualifications**

+ Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.

+ Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
