Due to continued growth, we have an opportunity for an experienced engineering leader to join our firm as Area Manager for Central Indiana based out of our Indianapolis office . The ideal candidate must have a strong background in both project management and business development within the consulting engineering industry and be able to provide both strategic and tactical leadership to the Transportation Design, Construction and Civil/Environmental teams and their respective Team Leaders. A deep understanding of the Indiana market and public sector clients is also required. Demonstrated ability to identify and win projects across all three teams and grow and develop staff and technical capabilities are key drivers for success in this role.
Primary Responsibilities
Manages the business and technical operations of the entire Area across multiple disciplines.
Responsible for project performance for the Area and oversight of planning, design, and construction services for a variety of civil and environmental engineering projects and clients.
Identifies and develops pursuit strategies including teaming with other firms and sub-consultants to win key projects within the Area.
Develops and manages the workload forecast for the Area and balances work across teams.
Identifies staffing needs and skills gaps and works with HR to identify and pursue candidates.
Ensures that QA/QC, billing, and invoicing are done per company guidelines for all projects.
Works with project managers to manage project scope, client requests and develop corrective action plans as needed.
Mentors staff and ensures that appropriate coaching and development activities are taking place.
Participates in professional organizations and events to advance the firm’s image and develop relationships with clients, prospects, and partners.
Functions as office manager with responsibility for facility maintenance, leases, and local events.
Position Requirements
B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline and IN PE license are required.
15+ years of progressive experience managing projects and teams for a variety of public sector civil engineering projects is required.
Ability to lead marketing efforts for multiple disciplines and project types throughout the Area.
Experience with the planning, design and construction of local roads, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and drainage projects.
Deep experience with project management functions including project scoping, schedule, budget development and QA/QC.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to make public presentations and lead internal initiatives and staff meetings.
Valid driver's license and the ability to travel throughout the area as needed.
