Job Number: 80009

Job Description

The Wilson Lab in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University is currently in search of talented postdoc candidates with a passion for science and a strong desire to make a positive impact on human health. Broad experience, as evidenced by published results, in small-molecule and/or polymer synthesis is an absolute requirement. The Wilson Lab’s research focuses on the synthesis and preclinical validation of biomaterials-based immunomodulatory therapiesthat bias the adaptive immune response for the treatment of cancer, autoimmunity and infectious diseases. The work includes the synthesis of novel biomaterials via small-molecule organic and polymer chemistry and the characterization of novel materials via techniques including FT-IF, NMR, and LC/MS/MS. Our postdoc will have the opportunity to test biomaterial functionality in vitro and in vivo. The individual will assist in the training of Jr lab members, thus excellent interpersonal skills are required. Postdocs will be expected to demonstrate independence in experimental design and execution and work effectively with others in a collaborative setting. The individual will receive training so that they may confidently present results at both national and international meetings, and author grants, fellowships, and manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and have a proven track record of conducting independent research. Candidates must have a track record of publishing research that demonstrates their ability to perform multi-step organic small-molecule or polymer synthesis. Special consideration will be given to candidates that also have experience in cell culture and/or animal work. A PhD degree in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, or like field is a prerequisite.

We strongly encourage applications from underrepresented or minority groups. We pride ourselves in establishing a creative, stimulating, and diverse environment wherein researchers put their ideas into action and obtain expertise in technology development and chemistry approaches.

Our postdocs perform cross-cutting research at the interface of materials development and immunology with collaborators at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Applicants are required to submit 1) curriculum vitae, 2) cover letter that highlights the candidates experience in organic synthesis, 3) a list of three references. Applications should be submitted to [Please click the Apply button for the link or email].
