Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated Research Scientist to join our cross-functional team in San Francisco. As a Senior Research Scientist in the Bioengineering department, you will have a pivotal role leading some of our R&D initiatives, by planning, executing and analyzing experiments. The position requires expertise and proven experience in the design and optimization of cell-free systems for the production of complex polysaccharides. We are looking for a senior scientist with excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic and innovative scientific environment.
Responsibilities:
Design and execute experiments to develop cell-free enzyme systems for the production of complex polysaccharides, including the optimization of reaction kinetics and product yield as well as enzyme engineering for improved catalytic activities and/or substrate specificity.
Perform data analysis and prepare detailed scientific reports.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate findings into broader research initiatives.
Stay current with scientific literature and contribute to the development of intellectual property.
Qualifications:
PhD in life sciences, within the area of biotechnology (Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Synthetic Biology or related field) or Master's degree with over 5 years of experience in the field.
Proven experience in the development of enzymatic, cell-free, and chemical systems for carbohydrate production
Proven experience in structural and functional characterization using HPLC or similar techniques
Strong background in molecular biology, genetics, and synthetic biology.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative and innovative research environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with mass spectrometry
Data analysis skills with software such as JMP, R, or python.
Experience in computational design for enzyme engineering and evolution.
