Job Purpose

The Environmental Manager will oversee environmental permitting for solar and wind energy projects in the United States with a primary focus on California. Collaborating with subject matter experts within the Longroad development team, the Environmental Manager will ensure seamless integration of project features in permit applications, site plans, wildlife and vegetation plans, and other relevant project documents. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Natural Resources and closely collaborating with the project development leader for each project, the Environmental Manager will identify schedule and cost concerns while maintaining flexibility in site design.

Responsibilities

Lead California-specific permitting requirements (including the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the California Endangered Species Act (CESA)) for the Longroad portfolio

Develop strategic solutions to successfully acquire project approvals

Collaborate with project development teams by screening and siting prospective early-stage solar and wind energy projects

Conduct environmental due diligence for prospective acquisition targets

Independently identify, organize, and prioritize risks to project schedule and budget in all phases of a project lifecycle

Collaborate with a cross-functional legal, finance, engineering, development, construction, and operations team

Manage consultant teams to secure permits while enhancing project value through environmentally beneficial siting and design commitments

Represent Longroad in regulatory and resource agency interactions related to permitting and compliance

Support the project development team in community relations and public efforts

Provide environmental compliance guidance for project construction

Participate in industry and natural resource forums on behalf of Longroad

Contribute to the long-term growth and development planning for the development team

Minimum Qualifications

Resides in California

Bachelor's degree in Planning, Land Use, Ecology, Biology, Natural Resources, or a related field

5 years of experience in environmental impact assessment and permitting, preferably in renewable energy development, energy generation and/or transmission industries

Experience permitting California solar projects

Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, CEQA, and state-equivalent programs and processes, local environmental permitting processes, and permitting/compliance issues

Well-versed in the technical aspects of wind and solar energy development, including wildlife and habitat assessments, cultural resource assessments, and other environmental variables

In-depth understanding of critical permitting issues facing wind and solar development

Excellent organizational and communication skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite

Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time for periods of up to a week

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in a relevant field

Experience managing environmental consulting teams from proposal development through implementation, including task schedule and budget management

Knowledgeable in site development, erosion and sedimentation control, stormwater management planning, civil engineering concepts and site plan interpretation

Prior experience working with project teams and regulators to address permitting issues

Ability to work constructively with stakeholder groups to resolve and mitigate potential conflicts and present permitting plans in public meetings

SALARY:

The salary range for this position is $140,000.00 to $160,000.00 annually. In addition to base salary, this role participates in a competitive project-based bonus program. This position offers health, vision/dental insurance, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, accrued paid time off, life insurance and disability coverage.
