About the Team

We’re looking for passionate candidates ready to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment at the intersection of entertainment and technology.

As a Lead Data Engineer on TikTok's Tools and Reporting team, you will have the opportunity to build, optimize and grow one of the largest data platforms in the world. You'll have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience on all kinds of systems in the data platform ecosystem that impact user communications, content operations, content programming, music, and user support. Your work will have a direct and huge impact on the company's core operations as well as hundreds of millions of users.

Responsibilities

- Interview key stakeholders to reveal operational inefficiencies and uncover hidden problems beyond what is obvious

- Design and implement reliable, scalable, and robust big data warehouse models that support core operations and business

- Lead strategy of efficient and reliable data transformations for different purposes (e.g. reporting, automations, data governance)

- Develop automated reporting by ensuring data quality through documentation and providing quality assurance of delivered insights

- Establish solid and best data engineering practices, including machine learning optimization for engineers as well as non-technical people

- Lead and manage a team of analysts and data engineers to pursue short-term and long-term impact

- Collaborate with both executive management and front-line employees in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Qualifications

- Four-year degree or equivalent in a quantitative field like statistics, computer science, engineering, or other technical field. Advanced degrees are preferred

- Ability to use constructive and candid dialogue to influence others without relying on formal authority

- Takes a measured and thoughtful approach to difficult situations, be comfortable with ambiguity, and be able to bounce back quickly from team challenges

- Self-motivated individual with strong organizational and problem solving skills including the ability to transition between detailed data and high-level insights

- 1+ years of team management experience

- Experience in the Big Data technologies(Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Presto, ClickHouse)

- Experience with ETL (Extraction, Transformation & Loading), schema design and data modeling

- Experience in writing, analyzing and debugging SQL queries and Python scripts

- Preferred experience with a data visualization tool (e.g. Mode Analytics/Chartio/Tableau/Qlikview)

- Preferred experience working with international partners at different time zones

Job Information:

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (annually) The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $194000 - $410000 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
