Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs , and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Director of Finance
The Director of Finance will oversee the billing, budget, and financial analysis functions and be responsible for maintaining fiscal oversight of a grant and entitlement portfolio of approximately $15M, primarily funded by state and federal governments. The Director of Finance will work as part of a team to strengthen the organization’s relationships with funding sources. This position supervises the Northern New Jersey Division’s Finance team.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, plus seven years relevant billing, budget, and financial reporting and analysis experience, including at least three years in a supervisory capacity.
Preference for prior not-for-profit experience in fiscal management of New Jersey governmental grants and contracts and/or audit. Knowledge of GAAP and the ability to successfully manage multiple projects under deadlines is required.
Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and conceptual skills and related supervisory experience.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize work and perform duties with a high level of accuracy is required.
Ability to use an in-house cloud-based ERM accounting system.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite with strong Excel skills is required.
Director of Finance Principal Responsibilities:
Direct the fiscal and administrative functions of all division grants and contracts. Contribute to automating and streamlining processes to enhance operational efficiencies and serve as a resource to agency programs regarding budgetary and financial information.
Participate in and manage all aspects of the division’s budgets processes, including the annual operating budget, contract budgets and modifications, and RFPs. Maintain knowledge of cost principles and r eview allocation methodologies.
Oversee grant and medical billing functions, e nsuring invoices and claims are complete, accurate, and submitted timely in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Work with the Controller to ensure monthly financial statements are produced, reviewed, and analyzed timely. Prepare budget to actual variance analyses. Provide recommendations on financial information to senior management.
Manage the preparation of funder quarterly and final Reports on Expenses and all other grant fiscal reporting requirements.
Monitor and report on receivables and collections, including t he division’s weekly cash flow projections.
Develop, monitor, and maintain internal controls to ensure accurate reporting of revenue and expenditures.
Work with management in setting goals and objectives regarding fiscal procedures that align with our organization’s strategic plan.
Supervise direct reports to ensure accurate and timely vouchering, budgeting, billing, collections, and financial reporting and analysis of all division programs.
Manage division’s housing projects, including review of rents and certifications, project budgets, reimbursements, and compliance activities.
Participate in negotiating contracts with funders and managed care organizations. Maintain effective relationships with all government agency and payor organization representatives.
