Description

The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Houston-Downtown invites applications for a tenure track position in the area of Structural Geology, starting fall 2024. UHD is a teaching university and tenure-track faculty teach 21 contact hours over two long semesters. Applicants with experience in GIS/remote sensing and demonstrated potential for and commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds are strongly desired.

Teach lower-level and upper-level geoscience courses as needed

Curriculum and programmatic improvement

Establish a successful research program that actively engages undergraduate students

Seek external funding

Be active in student recruitment

Co-teach the summer capstone field course in central Colorado, as needed

Participation in assessment activities of the geology program

Engage in department, college, university, and professional service

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

Ph.D. in geology at the time of appointment

Preferred Qualifications :

Experience in undergraduate teaching

Experience (teaching and/or utility) in Remote Sensing & GIS

Experience in online teaching

Experience in or passion for mentoring undergraduate students in research

Experience in teaching a field geology course

Demonstrated experience in seeking/obtaining external funding
