Development Associate

Reports to:Director of Development
The Development and Alumni Relations Office at Saint James School in Hagerstown, Maryland, is seeking a part-time Development Associate to work as an integral part of the Development Team. The Development Team raises funds from individuals, foundations, and corporations to provide financial support to the School. The team also organizes and provides staffing for a variety of on- and off-campus events for alumni, parents, and friends of the School.
The Development Associate is responsible for providing administrative support, processing donations, assisting with correspondence, and supporting other communications with the School’s internal and external constituents. The Associate reports to the Director of Development and supports the Assistant Directors of Development.
Position Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Database Entry and Maintenance. The Associate will assist with the confidential information management of the School’s donor database (Raiser’s Edge.) Tasks include:
a. daily entry of donations to the School and preparation of gift receipts,
b. entry and revision of constituent biographical information, and
c. other database management tasks as needed.
2. Mailing Support. The Associate will be responsible for mailing the Headmaster’s thank you notes, gift receipts, direct mail appeals, stewardship mailings, and other constituent correspondence.
3. Event Support. The Associate will assist with Development Office events. Work at evening and weekend events will be required from time to time.
4. General Administrative Duties . This includes, but is not limited to, office organization, filing, and maintaining general office supply inventories.
Qualifications Excellent written and oral communication skills, including standard business letter writing.
Excellent computer skills, including competency in Microsoft Office. Experience with database software is a plus, but not required.
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple responsibilities.
Must be willing to work collaboratively and cooperatively.
Experience in a private or independent school preferred.
Ability to take initiative, function independently, and exercise good judgment.
Prior experience in a professional environment, especially in a development role, preferred.
Must pass a criminal background check and hold a valid driver’s license.
Other: Salary range $18-20 per hour, commensurate with experience.
The first six months of employment are probationary, after which performance is evaluated yearly.
This position does not qualify for tuition remission.
