Position Summary
EBI is seeking a full-time Director of Operations responsible for leadership and management of EBI's Building Sciences Service Line, focused on Building Hazardous Materials (Asbestos, Lead, Mold, Radon, PCBs, and other Hazardous Building Materials), Environmental (Phase I, Phase II), and/or Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) assessments.. The successful candidate will be accountable for the group's overall performance and will develop, communicate and execute strategies across the Service Line. The successful candidate will promote a positive attitude and work ethic which will result in meeting/exceeding quantitative and qualitative goals.
This position reports to the Senior Vice President, ESG, and can either be a hybrid or fully remote position depending on where the successful candidate resides, with a preference for someone already established in either the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, or Texas. Nationwide travel may be required to support clients, so candidates must be comfortable and thrive in this type of environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain keen eye on financials, including work in progress review, backlog assessment, margin/revenue evaluation, and real-time invoicing
Prepare and control operational budgets, monitor bookings weekly, analyze impact and prepare/project ongoing capacity needs
Review financial statements and data, utilizing this data to improve on operational inefficiencies and/or pricing exercises to improve profitability
Plan effective strategies for the financial well-being of the Service Line
Recommend and implement continuous improvement to business processes and people management strategies, and monitor adherence to both
Team with the Practice Leader to monitor Service Line deliverables and ensure operational consistency
Responsible for staff management, including ongoing performance evaluation, goal setting, improvement plans, operations and technical training, continuous improvement, and periodic refreshers
Monitor effective staff utilization and ensure resource sharing as appropriate
Ongoing team engagement to address morale, provide mentorship and coaching at all levels, and assess career advancement and individual development opportunities
Build and maintain strong working relationship between Operations, Marketing, and Sales teams nationally
Develop and implement standard operating procedures, including minimum required information for pricing exercises by service type
Define sales roles for operations staff with the emphasis of utilizing/supporting existing EBI Sales teams
Work in collaboration with the Director of Sales on business development initiatives in order to maintain, nurture and develop relationships with new and existing clients
Work with Marketing to build content and continuously promote brand, and provide written updates for changing regulations
Coordinate with Human Resources for effective resource and succession planning for existing and future employees
Identify, on-board and train sub-consultants to support national and regional growth based on opportunity evaluation
Drive new hire process from identification and justification of position need, through formal requisition approvals, interviewing and onboarding new employees
Qualifications and Capabilities
Bachelor's or Master's Degree from accredited university in environmental science, engineering, or related field
10+ years of professional experience in consulting, with proven quality performance
Asbestos related licensing, or potential to obtain licensing, in Massachusetts, Texas and/or New York is a plus
Experience with hiring, managing, training remote and office-based employees
Knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management
Knowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices
Knowledge of project management principles and practices
People management experience within remote work environment required
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, maintaining critical attention to detail
Willing to occasionally work non-traditional hours to support team and client needs
