Department Summary
The HSC Division of Finance provides the expertise, tools and other vital resources and services to help the campus community make informed decisions, plan thoughtfully for the future, and utilize its resources in the most effective and efficient manner. HSC is a complex organization that has a budget of over $300 million allocated over two hundred fund sources with employees totaling over 1,600 FTEs.
Position Overview
The Director of Financial Operations is responsible for overseeing and managing all financial functions. This position provides financial accountability and ensures compliance with federal, state, and university requirements, policies, and procedures. This position will support Office of Academic Operations and Planning on behalf of the Provost leadership through financial tracking, budget projections, forecasting, and modeling of comparative performance, providing regular budget updates and monthly reports.
This position will continually review processes to ensure a strong system of internal controls and lead the development and management of budgets on a self-sustaining financial basis, identifying, analyzing, and communicating variances to leadership. This position will develop and implement financial procedures, executive analyses, and reports to ensure management has accurate and timely financial data, develop, and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses, including key metrics and performance indicators that provide Senior Management with insight into the financial outlook of the academic and administrative units that report up through to the Provost.
The director routinely communicates institutional consolidated financial and operational performance trends. The director will report directly to the VP, Finance with a dotted line reporting to the Executive Director of the Office of Academic Operations and Planning, Office of the Provost.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in a relevant field with six years ' related experience with financial analysis, budget reports, accounting principles; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Proven knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, financial statements, modeling, and revenue cycle management.
* Experience with financial systems applications, spreadsheet and database applications, data flow, report creation, and data interpretation.
* Ability to work collaboratively with internal units, HSC financial administration, and funding organizations.
* Problem-solving, mathematical proficiency, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills.
* Ability to properly communicate, both orally and in writing, in a clear, concise and effective manner.
* Provide mentoring to team members, including communicating strategic plans, tracking metrics, developing team goals, and implementing new financial initiatives.
* Clear understanding of discretion and confidentiality relating to sensitive center business issues.

Job Duties:
Direct and coordinate financial activities of the department - (Essential)
Oversees all state, local, and endowment funds - (Essential)
Organize and lead monthly budget meetings with senior staff, senior academic and business directors. - (Essential)
Manage internal and external financial obligations and expenditures for the Office of the Provost and Office of Finance, and perform management analyses to ensure budgeting execution is aligned with departmental - (Essential)
Provide analysis of financial data, forecasts, and the monitoring of key financial metrics for the Office of the Provost and academic and administrative units that report up through to the Provost - (Essential)
Prepare and manage annual budgets, including monthly reports for internal review for the Office of the Provost - (Essential)
Responsible for overseeing monthly budget reconciliations for the Office of the Provost - (Essential)
Conduct research and provide analysis for new business intelligence - (Essential)
