Construction Engineer

We have a thriving Transportation & Infrastructure practice with a close-knit, collaborative group that is growing rapidly. Due to our success, we need to continue to add resources to assist with the delivery of our current extensive backlog of work. This backlog includes tasks associated with various infrastructure improvement projects for local agencies including WMATA, VRE, other transit agencies, railroads, DDOT, SHA, VDOT and other local agencies.
We currently have an opening in Washington, DC for a Construction Engineer in our Transportation & Infrastructure division to work on various transit-related civil and structural construction projects under a Task Order Contract with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). This position requires a combination of engineering design and construction engineering expertise and experience. The successful candidate will support our current staff while assisting in growing the Construction Management and CEI practice to better service our clients in the Washington, DC Metro Area.
Responsibilities:
Acts as the primary contact between contractor and owner and manages the contractors performing the work for compliance with federal, state, and local specifications and regulations.
Manages project field office operations, supervisory and engineering personnel, inspectors, and subcontractors and coordinates client and other stakeholder needs.
Develops contract language and implements contract management policies and procedures.
Provides technical analysis, cost analysis support, and reviews requests for changes submitted by the construction contractor. Manages the activities associated with the changes to the construction contractor's work (change notices, change orders, contract modifications, etc.).
Recommends, if appropriate, construction techniques to enhance job safety, to expedite the project, to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
Oversees contractor safety program, prepares daily logs and reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.
Contributes technical expertise for reviewing project drawings and designs to ensure compliance with governing design criteria, administrative and technical specifications, standard drawings, design drawings and other client manuals.
Provides coordination of design, safety, operations, constructability, and standards compliance and advises clients regarding project risk and impacts.
Requirements:
Bachelors’ degree in civil engineering or related field
PE License in DC, VA, and/or MD
8 years minimum experience as a construction engineer of which 4 years is rail-transit related
Excellent written and verbal communication skills incl. proficiency in MS Office Suite and ProCore
Experience in alternate delivery projects including design-build and CMAR
Desired Skills:
CCM Certification
Knowledge of local transit agency standards and specifications including WMATA and VRE
