USD's MS in Information Technology Leadership  (MS-ITL) degree program is designed to prepare students for IT leadership positions of earned influence in any organization. Graduates will gain a comprehensive understanding of IT fundamentals that enables them to manage complex systems and articulate the value of technical solutions to non-technical decision makers. They will be capable of evaluating the mission, resources, and constraints of an organization for the purpose of developing, communicating, deploying, and maintaining effective IT solutions.

Detailed Description:

USD is searching for experienced professionals to develop and teach in the MS-ITL program. Please review the program curriculum  to determine whether your expertise aligns with any of the ten courses.

Currently, the MS-ITL program is hiring a course developer and instructor for ITL 520 Networking, which covers the role of wired and wireless networking in the architecture, deployment, and management of large-scale information technology environments. ITL 520 also includes advanced topics such as networking in cloud environments (e.g., AWS), edge data, and private wireless networks.

Adjunct Online Instructor Duties and Responsibilities

Commitment to teaching excellence.

Uphold standards of student academic performance and academic integrity.

Course Engagement and Communication Instructors are required to be actively engaged in their course a minimum of four out of seven days each week.

Instructors are encouraged to use multiple modes of communication to ensure students perceive their presence in the course.

Instructor will monitor and subscribe to the "Ask your Professor" discussion forum. Post a response within 24 hours.

Instructors are required to check their @sandiego.edu email daily and respond within 24 hours of receipt.

Instructors are expected to hold weekly virtual office hours. This can be accomplished using Zoom, Google Chat, FaceTime, etc.

Discussion Board Facilitation Instructor must actively participate and provide direction to students:

Add positive or reinforcing comments.

Note omissions and add constructive criticism.

Encourage students to make connections to personal or professional experience.

Participate actively in the discussion threads by modeling good, substantive discussion.

Frame feedback with the tone and depth you expect from your students without dominating the "conversation space".

Coach "silent" or non-participating students with a private message encouraging them to participate.

Seek opportunities to provide direction and add additional resources or questions to provoke critical thinking.

Grading

Instructor will grade assignments and provide qualitative feedback within 72 hours of submission . This is a best practice that allows students to incorporate feedback for the next module and subsequent assignments.

Instructor will wait to grade discussion questions until Monday (Day 7) evening of each module. Threaded discussions typically continue throughout the entire module (Tuesday - Monday).

Required Training

New adjunct instructors contracted to teach in any USD online degree programs must complete:

LDC-102 The USD Way: Online Course Facilitation

Description: this workshop introduces faculty to common online teaching scenarios with hands-on course preparation activities. Faculty will use technical tools, pedagogical strategies, and subject matter expertise to:

Add their instructor presence to their online course to humanize themselves to their students.

Facilitate student-to-student discussions to engage adult learners.

Give meaningful feedback to guide students toward deep learning.

Provide outreach, remediation, and intervention to support student success.

Type: online 2-week workshop, self-paced, offered 3 times/year.

Time Commitment: ~20 hours(paid)

Online Course Development (If applicable)

Completes LDC 101 - two-week, fixed date, asynchronous online course. Outcome: Draft Online Course Planning Grid

Meets weekly with instructional designer and technologist from Learning Design Center (LDC) to design and develop online course(s).

Commits to a 17-week course development timeline.

Designs original content to include: Module learning outcomes.

Content narrative and exposition (written, audio, or video formats are acceptable).

Assignments.

Self-study assignments.

Discussion questions.

Assessments.

Grading rubrics.

Final project / paper.

Other components as needed (interviews, commentaries, simulations, etc.).

Background check: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Degree Verification Requirement : Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications

Extensive professional experience is required.

Experience with online instruction at the university level is preferred.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

$32-$45/Hour

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
