Crane Operator, (Industrial Equipment Mechanic)

Summary This position is located in Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard, Operational Logistics Command, Base New Orleans, Naval Engineering Department, Industrial Production Facility, in New Orleans, LA. Responsibilities The purpose of this position is to operate boom cranes and marine travel lifts in support of USCG activities within the Naval Engineering Departments under direction of the Industrial Operations Division, as well as to perform overhaul, maintenance, and repair on all types of machinery and mechanical equipment. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: 1. Operates boom cranes of varying sizes (30-ton to 50-ton marine travel lift, 20-ton with 70-foot boom, 25 ton with 72-foot boom, 35-ton with 136-foot boom, 45-ton with 60-foot boom, etc.). Inspects equipment and reports defects. 2. Transports a variety of loads including buoys, small boats, wood and steel pilings, vessel masts, booms, crane sections, engines, and heavy equipment and machines. Lifts personnel in a man lift safety basket to perform repairs aloft on ships' masts. 3. Performs refueling and routine maintenance of equipment, including oil and filter changes, tire repairs, and chassis and wire rope lubrication. Starts equipment and checks all gauges and meters. 4. Operates gasoline and diesel-powered forklifts with maximum lifting capacities to 25 tons and 18 feet. 5. Incumbent must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, prepare sketches, reports, and diagrams, and follow manufacturer's operating and maintenance instructions. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship is required. A final offer of employment is contingent upon a negative drug test result. The position requires a valid state driver's license. Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service. A one-year probationary period may be required. This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Lift loads weighing up to 75 lbs. carry packages up to 45 lbs. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
