Job Description Job Description The Managing Director is the chief administrative officer for the Bishop Arts Theatre Center (BATC). The position oversees fundraising, marketing, finance, management, and education activity, and along with the Executive Artistic Director/Founder, works closely with the Board of Trustees in governance, fundraising, strategic planning, and fulfilling the mission of the organization. The Managing Director is the chief human resources officer for all company staff and is specifically responsible for the oversight, recruitment, and evaluation of the administrative staff.
This is a new position and a key goal is to successfully lead and increase BATC’s total revenue including ticket sales, contributions, rental, and education income.
The Managing Director is an exempt, salaried position with a full benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and participation in the company's 403(b) retirement plan. The position works onsite Monday-Friday at BATC’s offices and at public meetings, fundraising visits, and cultivation events. Some evenings and weekends will be required.
Compensation: $70,000
Responsibilities: Develop a comprehensive strategy in conjunction with the Board of Trustees and the Executive Artistic Director/Founder to grow and sustain donors and audiences for BATC
Oversee donor cultivation and stewardship of individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies to deepen existing donor relations and expand the donor base with the objective to significantly increasing contributed income
Working with the Marketing Coordinator to develop a marketing plan to increase audiences for all BATC activities including the theater and jazz series and the education programs
Working with the senior staff to develop an annual operating budget and oversee a process to monitor the budget and financial operations throughout the season
Report to the Board of Trustees and Executive Artistic Director/Founder monthly on BATC’s financial situation as well as updates on marketing, fundraising, and administrative activity
An active participant with the Board of Trustees to recruit, cultivate, and evaluate board members
Supervise the Education Director in all of BATC’s education programming including the summer camps and partnership with the Dallas Independent School District
Manage outside rentals of theater auditorium, rehearsal, and office space
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree
A minimum of 3 years of administrative experience, preferably in nonprofit managemen
Demonstrated fundraising experience with individual, corporate, foundation, and government entities
Understanding/experience in marketing techniques including digital marketing, social media press, and public relations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience in budgeting and financial management
Experience in artist contract negotiations
Passion for and/or experience in the live performing arts
A leader who is willing to work under pressure, solve conflicts, problem solve, and be a good listener
Possess a good sense of humor
