Job Summary:

The DEE Technology Platform Software Productivity Engineering team is seeking a Software Engineer who has a true passion for using software engineering to build quality into software applications. This engineer will help us develop tools and write tests that support a large variety of Disney software products on web, mobile, and OTT platforms. We are looking for an Engineer who is excited to push the envelope and grow with our team.

Our team is motivated by a desire to continuously improve and create efficiencies within the organization. We are a fast-paced group that takes extraordinary pride in creating innovative tools, and constantly improving upon them. We do not shy away from tough problems and take delight in solving the hard one's other folks might say are impossible to solve at scale.

Just some of the exciting products we work on include the websites & mobile apps for ESPN & ESPN Fantasy, ABC / ABC News, Disney+, Star+ and Hulu, National Geographic and Marvel Unlimited! We work very closely with these brands and teams and strive to be as close to the product as possible as we are also fans ourselves!

As a member of our team, you will strive to accomplish the following goals:

Contributing to the successful implementation of solutions for complex technical problems with engineering teams

Owning the development and maintenance of one or more functional areas of core frameworks, execution environments, build systems and tooling used across multiple products.

Leading the successful design & implementation of one or more project features with input from senior engineers.

Providing strategic input on future initiatives with stakeholders and other engineers.

Contributing to and collecting data to inform Key Performance Indicators used for defining project statuses and effectiveness.

Check in valuable, clean code daily that adds new features and capabilities.

Becoming a core member of our Quality Engineering team, helping others increase productivity through innovation, and championing the core value of Disney Quality.

Responsibilities:

Developing and supporting test automation frameworks, execution environments, build systems, and reporting tools.

Work with product and development teams to implement a full-stack quality solution.

Maintaining documentation meant for end-user consumption as well as project contributor documentation.

Supplying end-user and developer training on automation tools and frameworks.

Investigating and resolving any framework, tool or execution of environmental issues affecting our services.

Becoming a core member of our Platform Software Engineering team, helping others increase productivity through innovation, and championing the core value of Disney Quality.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.

3+ years of progressive experience in software development (SDE) occupation, including automated testing of front-end and backend services.

Proficient in object-oriented design and expertise with one of the following programming languages: Java or Python or other programming languages.

Experience with test automation and unit testing frameworks.

Experience with Docker or similar container tools.

Excellent problem-solving skills.

Excellent collaboration skills and ability to use standard software development lifecycle (SDLC) tools such as Jira and Confluence, and version control systems.

Organized, detail-oriented, and able to deliver project tasks on time.

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Highly motivated, self-starting individual.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with developing applications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS)

Experience working with Agile methodologies.

Working knowledge of web accessibility fundamentals.

Experience with Kafka, Amazon SQS, and Kinesis.

Experience with Kubernetes, Spinnaker, and continuous integration/delivery systems.

Experience writing Gherkin Syntax to facilitate the development of automated test scenarios.

Experience writing code that consumes RESTful services with JSON data.

Experience developing advanced mocking mechanisms (e.g., rule-based proxies and dummy-services).

Experience with test suite/case/run management tools (e.g., JIRA Xray, etc.)

The hiring range for this position in Washington, California or New York is $107,256 to $165,440 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
