Job Summary
The Data Scientist position will leverage large data sets to support Oncor Transmission Engineering in their continuous effort to improve on time material delivery, project financial data and forecasting. To accomplish the desired results, the incumbent will utilize data sets such as project and purchase order data from PETE, Maximo, and other internal Oncor systems. The position may also use data external to Oncor such as vendor delivery information.
Emphasis will be placed on the incumbent’s ability to utilize advanced tools designed for large data sets and visualizations such as Alteryx, Tableau, and Smartsheet or similar tools. The incumbent will also utilize their skills to evaluate various advanced modeling techniques, build/maintain appropriate queries, develop necessary algorithms and create both ad-hoc and published reports. This will include analyzing, troubleshooting and enhancing poor performing queries, algorithms and reports.
This position may be required to attend and present at internal meetings and events as well as presenting at various analytics conferences each year. This could include visiting with other utilities and vendors at their facility or one of Oncor’s Texas location.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Consistently research new methods of capturing data
Develop infrastructure to clean data and implement data scrubbing automation protocols
Gathers, extracts, manipulate, analyze, curate, and model data using analytical and statistical tools
Identifies new sources of data and new methods to improve data collection, analysis, and reporting
Maintains a database ‘sandbox’ or ‘workbench’ environment to achieve the required reports
Ensures the efficient performance of queries, algorithms and analytical functions to generate reports
Design complex reports or presentations to monitor and analyze assets, material, construction schedules and project cost data
Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience
Education, Experience, & Skills
Master’s degree preferred in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Business Administration and two years data analytics experience, OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or Business Administration with four years data analytics experience, OR eight years data analytics experience
Certifications in Data Science preferred such as DASCA, Data Science Council of America, or similar
Proficient with Structured Query Languages (SQL), Python, .Net and has exposure to advanced tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, Smart Sheet or similar tools
Proficient with Microsoft Excel
