Benefits Specialist II

Responsible for providing plan administration, participant communications, and customer service support as directed by the Benefits Director. The Benefits Specialists II will provide Tier III customer response to inquiries and escalated issues from the Human Resource Solution Center (HRSC) team and utilize this experience to provide input to customer education needs. This position also provides complex transactional and administration support to the benefits plans and leave of absence, while actively seeking administrative efficiencies and continuous process improvement. In addition, the Benefits Specialist II will provide special project support (e.g. open enrollment, integrations) in coordination with the Benefits Program Manager or Benefits Director as needed.
Essential Functions:
Act as a customer service consultant handling more complex issues requiring specialized benefits and leave of absence knowledge, escalating cases to senior Benefits staff when appropriate.
Assist employees in the completion of all necessary forms to enroll in or make changes to JHHS benefits and leave of absence programs.
Perform administration activities to support 'core' transaction processing including, but not limited to health and welfare benefits enrollment, qualified status changes, and educational benefits.
Identify communication and operational issues arising during day-to-day administration activities/contact with customers and propose solutions to the Human Resource Support Center (HRSC) as appropriate.
Assist with group presentations explaining details of specified benefit programs for new hire orientation along with other educational initiatives.
Provide technical support and guidance to HRSC staff, sharing technical and legislative knowledge to ensure staff are up to date.
Seek to continuously develop and improve levels of knowledge and expertise, coordinating with the Benefits Director for training as required.
Make recommendations for process improvements to continuously improve efficiency and customer service.
Provide support to the Benefits Director for projects, including open enrollment, annual benefit statement production, performing research and other tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field
One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience or one year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education
Three years of progressively responsible related experience in benefits administration
Completion of or working towards a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) (Preferred)
