The Role
The Domestic Transportation Director will be responsible for leading all aspects of domestic transportation operations to ensure seamless, efficient, and cost-effective movement of goods across our network. This role involves strategic planning, execution, and continuous improvement of our transportation systems, ensuring alignment with our broader supply chain and business objectives.
Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive domestic transportation strategy that aligns with the company's growth and operational goals.
Carrier Management: Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with third-party carriers and logistics service providers. Ensure service levels meet or exceed expectations.
Cost Management:Monitor and optimize transportation costs, including freight, fuel, and related expenses. Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising on service quality.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure all transportation activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations. Promote a culture of safety within the transportation team.
Technology Implementation: Leverage advanced transportation management systems (TMS) and analytics tools to improve routing, tracking, and overall logistics performance.
Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of transportation professionals. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and operational excellence.
Performance Metrics: Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess efficiency and effectiveness of transportation operations.
Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as warehousing, inventory management, and customer service, to ensure a cohesive supply chain strategy.
What You Bring to the Party: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in transportation or logistics management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing domestic transportation.
Proven experience in negotiating contracts and managing relationships with carriers and third-party logistics providers.
Strong knowledge of regulatory standards affecting transportation in the United States.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in transportation management systems (TMS) and related IT tools.
