Bioinformatics Data Scientist (Systems Biology)
San Francisco, CA, United States
The Opportunity
The CZ Biohub SF brings together scientists and engineers striving to understand the inner workings of complex cellular systems. We build large, open datasets that map cellular architecture across scales, including atlases that define human sub-cellular organization ( https://opencell.czbiohub.org/ ), mammalian cell types ( https://tabula-sapiens-portal.ds.czbiohub.org/ ), or cellular dynamics during vertebrate development ( https://zebrahub.ds.czbiohub.org/ ). Our work combines genomics, proteomics and state-of-the-art imaging technologies with software engineering, machine learning and data science.
The Data Science platform at CZ Biohub SF( https://www.czbiohub.org/data-science/ ) is passionate about turning complex multi-modal biological data into actionable insights. Big-data biology requires innovations in data analysis and visualization to catalyze interpretation and discovery. We are seeking a multi-disciplinary Bioinformatics Data Scientist (Systems Biology) to perform integrated analysis with multi-omic datasets to derive insights about cellular biology, pioneer novel methods for multi-modal data analysis (e.g. network analysis, machine learning), and create web-based tools to enable data exploration by collaborators. The candidate will work in a team-science environment collaborating closely with experts in genomics and cell biology as well as software engineers and other data scientists in the team.
This is a great opportunity for candidates with a passion for both the quantitative analysis of big datasets and the development of compelling collaboration tools.
You will
Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of data scientists, software engineers, and experts in genomics and cell biology to pursue audacious, important scientific challenges
Author publications and openly disseminate research discoveries to the scientific community
Develop analysis pipelines for various omic assays, and identify creative approaches to derive insights about cellular response
Pioneer novel methods for multi-modal data analysis (e.g. network analysis, machine learning) and develop new data visualization solutions
Develop scalable data pipelines for state-of-the-art biological datasets and prototype web-based data portals
You have
Essential –
Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, or a related discipline and a working knowledge of Cellular Biology
A minimum of 3 years of experience performing integrated multiomic data analysis (e.g. genomics, proteomics, imaging)
Good data science practices, data intuition for biological high-throughput data, and attention to detail
Passion for systems biology and collaborating with bench scientists
Familiarity with software development best practices (testing, documentation, version control, etc.)
A collaborative, team-focused mindset coupled with outstanding communication skills, and ability to work in an agile environment
Nice to have -
Experience with analyzing single-cell RNA sequencing, proteomics or pooled CRISPR screening datasets
Experience with biologically sound implementation/development of AI/ML methods
Experience with data portal or web app development
Experience with computational workflow management systems (e.g. Nextflow, Snakemake)
The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub requires all employees, contractors, and interns, regardless of work location or type of role, to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, including a booster vaccine dose, if eligible, by their start date. Those who are unable to get vaccinated or obtain a booster dose because of a disability, or who choose not to be vaccinated due to a sincerely held religious belief, practice, or observance must have an approved exception prior to their start date.
