Job Description
The Legal Research Librarian (Digital Information Analyst) will play a crucial role in supporting the firm's attorneys, paralegals, and team members by providing comprehensive reference and research services. This position will be responsible for conducting in-depth legal, corporate, financial, and general research using the firm's extensive information resources. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the available resources and the ability to select the most relevant tools for each research request.
In addition to conducting research, the Legal Research Librarian (Digital Information Analyst) will be responsible for creating summary reports, visualizations, and training materials to assist the firm's professionals in effectively utilizing the available resources. This role will also involve collaborating with the Information Services Team to ensure timely and accurate responses to all reference requests.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide reference and research services to attorneys, paralegals, summer associates, and team members in all offices.
Bill time for research and other work associated with active client matters.
Perform in-depth legal, corporate, financial, and general research using the firm's information resources.
Maintain a thorough understanding of the firm's information resources and select the most relevant tools for each request.
Provide summary reports, visualizations, and narrative explanations of research findings.
Collaborate with the Information Services Team to ensure timely and accurate responses to all reference requests.
Train lawyers, paralegals, and staff in the use of information resources.
Develop and conduct presentations, orientations, guides, and training materials.
Stay updated with new developments, technologies, innovations, and products in legal and business research.
Assist in the creation and maintenance of litigation alerts for attorneys.
Review and evaluate practice-specific websites, and update practice pages and internal library sites.
Act as a research liaison to assigned practice groups and teams, attending meetings and reporting on information and training needs.
Assist in the design and maintenance of the Department's intranet page.
Implement marketing strategies to promote the Department's services and resources.
Manage physical library collections, including organizing, maintaining, renewing, and purchasing resources.
Assist with renewals and management of electronic resources.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Experience/Skills
Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program, with coursework in law librarianship and/or legal research (or a JD from an American Bar Association accredited program with relevant experience).
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a law library, preferably in a law firm library.
Excellent customer service skills and ability to excel under pressure.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Extensive experience in the efficient use of legal and business information resources (e.g., Westlaw Edge, Lexis Advance, Bloomberg Law, VitalLaw, S&P CapitalIQ).
Proven ability to develop and deliver effective training to attorneys and team members.
Ability to support attorneys and team members in multiple locations and time zones, using various communication strategies.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams, peers, and clients.
Knowledge of copyright as it applies to libraries.
Knowledge of Texas legal research and resources is strongly preferred.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience with the EOS integrated library system.
Experience with Camtasia for producing asynchronous training materials.
Experience with data gathering, organization, analysis, and visual presentation of information (e.g., infographics, tables, charts, dashboards).
Education
Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program, or a JD from an American Bar Association accredited program.
